"It's adequate"
It's in a good location and it's reasonably priced. The room had a bit of a musty smell but that's probably due to the high humidity levels in Southern India. They also require you to remove your shoes when entering the building. It seems making it easier for the floor cleaners is more important than protecting my feet from other people's diseases! The wifi service isn't always available, even when there is power, but at least the service is free. They tried to charge me for AC even though I'd paid for an air conditioned room so it's a good idea to have a copy of your invoice because their record keeping isn't the greatest.

"Best customer service ever experienced"
In terms of service, the Taj is absolutely outstanding, the best hotel chain we have stayed at ever. The staff really do go out of their way to make you feel special. The customer service really should be used as an example for all other hotel chains. the comfort in the room was also outstanding and the food both at dinner and choice at breakfast was very good. My husband has a disability, and staff were always extremely kind and helpful. We had a free upgrade to a premium suite on the last night to save the long walk for my husband, this was a wonderful surprise and really made our stay unforgettable. Thank you to all the wonderful staff who we didn't get to thank in person at the time.

Lovely hotel, great location, nice people, great room. I only stayed here one night but it was really good value. I spoke to another guy who paid 2/3 what I paid in a nearby hotel and his place was no where near as good. The interior is really nice and it is very close to the sea.

"A perfect hotel, great service in a good location"
We stayed at the Mercy on two separate occasions and both times were 100% satisfied. We were on holiday but I travel for business a lot so am used to a high standard which the Mercy met. Staff were very helpful, the roof bar and pool was nice, breakfast was decent and rooms were 100% spot on, And from outside you can jump in to an autorickshaw to all the best places in Ernakulum for between Rs 30 and Rs 50.

"Great hotel, amazing location!"
If you are single traveler, this can be a great option. The manager is very helpful and polite. Rooms are good for the price it comes for. I might not stay here the next time I'm in Kochi but it's worth the one time I stayed here :)

Hotel Kavitha International

Chittoor Road, Cochin - Map
"Shiny façade, terrible once inside!"
Outside, the trails of fairy lights on the glass frontage make the hotel look like a polished, international standard location. However the illusion was over once we got inside, we were shown to our room a "king suite" which was a dark, dingy vestibule room with a desk and 4 chairs (no window!) leading to the main bedroom with en suite. Upon entry, the smell of stale cigarette smoke mingling with damp was quite overpowering, when we complained (we booked non-smoking room) a cleaner came round and sprayed some air freshener, when requesting a room change we were told they were full. There was evidence of water leakage on the ceiling in the corridor leading to our room, hence the damp smell. The bottle of water provided in the room was unsealed (whilst some hotels provide filtered water for guests in thermos-style flasks, this was a dirty, used bottle with a brown, thumbed-over rim. Hardly international standard. Luckily we only used this room for post and pre flight accommodation and for one night midweek. The towels weren't changed 1x in 2 weeks, neither was the bedding (we had to ask!) and then they attempted to charge us for this!!! The staff were most unhelpful, surly, poor English. Many of them were just sat about on stairwells all day. Breakfast was also a sorry affair, dirty cups, plates and questionable hygiene. Upon check out they then also tried to charge us for the "room service" cleaning and breakfasts which were meant to be included. TRULY DISAPPOINTING!
