Mexico City, the national capital, is situated 40 miles (64 kilometers) north of Cocoyoc.
While it can be tempting to limit yourself to just the local sights when vacationing in Cocoyoc, keep in mind that the surrounding region's diverse natural and man-made attractions are never more than a day trip away. El Tepozteco National Park and Gallaecia which you'll find in and around Tepoztlan, are interesting places to visit. Tepoztlan, is roughly 10 miles (16 kilometers) from Cocoyoc. A journey to Cuernavaca is another great option. It's about 17 miles (27 kilometers) from Cocoyoc and is home to the Tabachines Golf Club and Archaeological Monuments Zone of Xochicalco.
Approximately 40 miles (64 kilometers) to the north of Cocoyoc is Mexico City, a regional city where you go see Museo Leon Trotsky, Centro Comercial Perisur and Insurgents Theater. Estadio Azteca, Plaza Satelite Shopping Center and Cumbres del Ajusco National Park are also good places to head to.
A good way to better understand a region is by discovering its history. Make the time to visit the archeological sites while you are in the area. For a look into the religious side of Cocoyoc, why not visit the region's churches.
Pack your own gear or rent some when you get here, and get out onto the water. Canoeing is one option. Another is water skiing. If you feel like it is time to relax try bird watching or sunbathing.
