Nice Hotel, renovations are nicely done. Accommodations and staff were excellent. Note: Would not recommend 3rd floor for elderly folks.

Lovely boutique hotel at a great location

Posted Jul 26, 2015
We loved the Blackwell Hotel. Lots of places claim to be charming -- the Blackwell really is. It's a large house, a mansion really, that's been converted into a boutique hotel. There are only 7 rooms, each uniquely decorated and furnished. Ours was spacious, beautiful, and very comfortable. And by the way "charming" doesn't mean primitive; there are flat screen TV's and free wifi. The staff were really friendly and knowledgeable. They serve a nice continental breakfast which, when we were there, featured home-made muffins and other goodies. The hotel is located a convenient 15 minute walk from the Lake Coeur d'Alene waterfront with a good variety of restaurants and pubs along the way. One thing to be aware of: the exterior doors are kept locked at all times for security and privacy. It's a house after all. This might be a little confusing when you first arrive but there's a number to call prominently displayed on the door and the staff will be there in a jiffy to open up and check you in.

Stunning Decor - Not Functional

Posted Jul 24, 2015
Pros: Staff, breakfast, location
Cons: See comment
Location: Everything in Coeur D' Alane is right down Sherman street and all walk-able from the hotel
Beautifully interior decorations on an old building provides a very nice comfortable setting. Staff friendly and decent breakfast provided. Our room was on the top floor (5 flights of stairs, no elevator) in what used to be the butler's room. Stair negotiation a little complex. The room decorations were stunning however the bed and chairs were all only about a foot above the floor. Climate control for the room was difficult too as there is only one A/C and heating for the entire building.

Easy walk to downtown.

Charming hotel. Staff is very friendly. The generous glass of tasty wine upon arrival is a nice welcome. Breakfast could use some upgrades. Needs more attention to detail regarding the presentation. Microwaved sausage and cold ham slices on an aluminum foil covered plate doesn't quite do it. Also, some kind of eggs would be nice. Nevertheless, would stay there again.

Perfect for Ironman Coeur d'Alene

Posted Jul 1, 2015
Pros: Close proximity to downtown CdA and Ironman Village. The wife loved the quaint decor and layout.
Cons: Better door locks and maybe some sound insulation for each room.
Excellent B&B. Abbie, Jordan, and Josie were excellent hosts. I highly recommend staying here! #teamblackwell

Romantic escape

Posted May 26, 2015
From the time we walked in the customer service was great! The hotel was beautiful and it had a lot to offer from great outdoor seating areas, pool table, horse shoes, shuffleboard, and a media room downstairs. It was nice to come back at night and still have fun things to do. Also, very short walk to the downtown area! The only downside was room 2 had a detached bathroom. I have come to expect this from historic/older boutique hotels but in this case our bathroom was right next to the stairs (very public) and they supplied only tiny bathrobes that didn't fit my husbands beer belly :) this in turn took some planning for showers and dressing. The staff also leaves around 6 after all the guests check-in leaving us without anybody to ask for extra towels and such. Overall, great stay, very romantic, and we would come back but plan to have a bathroom in our room.
