Good cheap place to stay if you don't have any expectations. Good location since it's a minute walk to the beach, and they serve good food but a bit pricey.

Love the Hoey Moey…
This was always our place to stay on road trips between sydney & Qld. But this last stay we noticed that rooms are very tired & the noise level from other staying guests has become unbearable. So sad as we love ‘Hoey Moey’ for its value for $$, quaintness, location & it’s restaurant/bar especially when there’s live music after a day of driving! Service is always great & housekeeping do an excellent job… We will be back when the curtains have been replaced & rooms have had a fresh coat of paint 🙏

Make sure you research before you book. We stayed two nights, Run down unit needs a lot of repairs, for what we paid it wasn’t good value at all. No microwave, no glasses, holes in rubber back curtains, how does a backpacker afford this I do not know..

I have stayed at the Hoey Moey in the double rooms several times over the last few years and loved my stays, it's right on the beautiful park beach, food's great, staff are excellent, but this time we got a backpacker's room and it was third world, terribly disappointing and a bit depressing, and the kitchen facilities were very grubby. We ended up leaving and had a fantastic experience at the big4 at Park beach. I'm still waiting and hoping I will get a refund of some description.

As this is back packer accomodation it’s very small and basic which is fine however it’s also very dated and had flaking paint on the ceiling, black mould in the bathroom and filthy windows. The publicans for the pub owned by the accomodation park in the backpacker carparks leaving you know where to park your car and making a lot of noise right outside your door. When we enquired about this with the staff they were less than helpful.

False advertising
This hotel engaged in false advertising. When I made my reservation, the receipt stated that "don't worry, you will not be charged until check-in", or something to that effect. However, my credit card was charged 6 days prior to check-in and the hotel refused to reverse the charge.

due to being at a hotel was noisy with band and people going late into the night, also as no a/c you had to keep windows open so could not close out noise

Unless this place is completely renovated or rebuilt I would recommend that no one stay here at all. I understand that it is largely promoted for Backpackers, but this does not excuse the conditions compared to the asking price for accommodation. This will definitely impact the reputation of Wotif if you continue to support and promote this property until some drastic action is taken. I travel and stay in Motels frequently as a result of my work across NSW and this is literally the worst place I have stayed at in twenty years.

Not the best sleep
I know it's a hostel, but I had high hopes of getting a good night sleep because the rooms are not attached to the restaurant. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. Partying all night with loud bumping music. I finally fell asleep at 2. I was rudely awaken at 7am to tradies banging on the skip bin as they threw panels from the restaurant into the bin. Not the best way to wake up after a restless night.. Also there is plenty of cobwebs and dust just above your head under the bed light.

a horrible experience
the room felt very much like a prison cell. it was small, unclean and unkempt. there was constant shouting and screaming that went on through the night.

Lively venue near the beach with accommodation
we stayed here Easter Sunday - the venue had a band on all night and the place was packed. Service at the bar was slow and they switched to cash only at a certain time. The motel rooms are right next to the hotel and noise carried on through the night. Revellers carried on outside the room to the early hours of the morning. Room was clean. Bed was uncomfortable for 2 people. We didn't get much sleep due to noise outside and had a long drive back to Sydney the next day.

The bar seems to be the main spot of this hostel. Rooms are on the expensive side but they have obviously seen better days. I think the price is too much for a backpacker room.

Good inexpensive motel close to the beach. Booked and paid on Expedia but was still asked for payment on check in. Guy behind counter demanded that I pay as he said the motel had not been able to process the credit card from Expedia, despite it being used successfully that day and the day after? Annoying. I hope I haven't been charged twice

The location was the best thing about this place
So close to the beach, we thought we couldn't go wrong. But the walls of our room seemed to be made out of cartboard. We could hear the people from the bar and the other guest shouting and singing all night (4am). The staff wasn't very friendly either, except for the man (german) how picked us up from the bus stop. The shared kitchen was disgusting, grease was dripping of the walls. There was no microwave or oven. And when we wanted to dry our dishes, we couldn't because the towels were coverd in ants.
