Beautiful building, garden and kind helpful staff.Posted May 13, 2015
Extremely beautiful palacio and jardim, steeped in Portuguese history, with a relaxing atmosphere. The staff were always very kind and helpful, with room cleaned immaculately daily even in the afternoon. All positioned just over the Mondego river walking distance from the beautiful historic university town of Coimbra, Forca Briosa! :)

Cons: See comment
We book the hotel based on the recommendations and advertising, namely: "Nature, charm, history, elegance, experiences.... this is the essence of Quinta das Lágrimas (Estate of Tears), a hotel with soul and character, a retreat of comfort that honors Portugal's rich traditions of hospitality and gastronomy. For centuries a private sanctuary that welcomed Kings and Emperors!". Great was our deception when we Discovered that not Princes and Emperors are the guest , but also the service stuff. They could not find our reservation because the " system was slow " , plus that we didnt accepted the tiny room they offer us nor the dark room they propose as alternative.... till finally when we were almost ready to leave the already paid room they offer us an alternative in the new part of the hotel! Lack of restoration, lack of maintenance! We were happy to leave the hotel early next day

O hotel é unicoPosted May 9, 2015
Trata-sede um palácio maravilhosamente situado em um parque, com campo de golfe e jardins belíssimos. Muito conforto e equipe educada e muito bem treinada. É nossa segunda visita e esperamos voltar sempre

Old world Hotel on sprawling groundsPosted May 6, 2015
Pros: Serene setting, aged hotel but well maintained especially the hard wood floors, walls, stairs etc. Century old mansion with all modern amenities.
This hotel is close to the Coimbra University, without the humdrum of the city center. Our suite was on the lower floor and had a private yard with patio furniture. The view was of a golf course and had a nice driveway from the entry gate to the chateau like hotel. Breakfast and service were good, again with a serene garden setting. Very romantic! Definitely stay here when in Coimbra and do go on a Coimbra University tour and see the grand library which inspired Rollin's Harry Potter series.

O hotel é deslumbrante, com um jardim incrível. Os quartos são confortáveis, apenas um pouco antigos, mas o staff é muito atencioso e a comida do hotel é espetacular.

Fantastic charming hotel, with a great staff. Somewhat out of town, but we chose not to leave the hotel at all. Food execellent, but a bit pricy.

Hospedagem históricaPosted Apr 29, 2015 on Hotels
Foi maravilhoso se hospedar na parte clássica do hotel. As histórias que aconteceram no Quinta das Lágrimas te envolve de uma forma que vc se sente parte de um dos poemas de Camões. Amamos.

Disappointed!Posted Apr 28, 2015 on Hotels
We were disappointed in our spa room and the restaurant. The bed and pillows were hard, the room was spartan. You had to walk down a long, dimly lit corridor to get to the new spa wing. The restaurant had lost its Michelin star and the fish we ordered was so tough and smelly (old) that we sent it back.

Historical mansion;Timeless gardensPosted Apr 27, 2015 on Hotels
Great restaurant and wonderful breakfast. Grounds are magnificent and building is historical. Well appointed rooms and rather spacious.Nice amenities. Spa and indoor swimming pool were a great plus. Major drawback is that it is not accessible and there are many steps leading up to the hotel and in our case, many steps leading down to our room--with no elevator. Furthermore, there was typically only one person at the reception desk who was unable to assist with bags. It was a major drawback for anyone with any mobility issues. You need to take a taxi to get into the city and there is very little nearby(walking distance) in the way of restaurants/bars
