Lovely location and a relaxing experience.Posted Aug 2, 2014
Pros: Quiet location away from the town centre.
Cons: It would be nice if the hotel did not charge extra to use the lock for the in-room safe!
My wife and I stayed for a few days whilst visiting relatives in Tavira and really enjoyed the hotel's location. It is close enough to the town to be convenient by car, yet far enough out of town to be a somewhat quieter and more relaxing environment. If you need the internet, the wifi is free in reception and the reception staff can supply a code to access it. If you purchase a coupon for internet access in the room, be sure to check the validity carefully though as the "24 hour" access passes they gave me varied between 5 to 63 hours validity in reality when I checked the expiration time and date printed on them. Be aware as well, if you have any valuables you'd like to secure in the room, although the hotel supply a small safe in the wardrobe you have to rent the lock and key from reception. Although the staff are really very friendly and pleasant, they are often overwhelmed by guests and it can be quite an exercise in patience whilst waiting if you need anything. The meals were very nice and breakfast was very pleasant indeed. The only thing which I would have liked is if the egg station could cook more than just pancakes - I really fancied the idea of an omelette in the morning and this was not possible. Overall though, a lovely place to relax and to base yourself while exploring the local area.

Nice hotel on the outskirtsPosted Mar 27, 2014 on Hotels.com
The room was quite nice as far as size....bathroom too. It was only about a 15-20 minute walk to the main old town area. The lobby was beautifully decorated and comfortable which was important because we had to be there for free internet access. The staff was courteous and friendly.

Great hotel for anyonePosted Jun 1, 2013
Touring around Portugal we arrived early in Coimbra and were pleasantly told we could do an early check in with no problem. The room was comfortable and clean. My only complaint with the room was that it did not receive a wireless connection. Not a problem- was able to get it for free down in the lobby. My friend went out for a bike ride and I lounged by the pool and was impressed with the calming view and fun of the tram riding by. Not to mention the inexpensive glass of wine I had while poolside. Location was close to everything, friendly employees and dinner at the in house restaurant was delicious. They even offer you a complimentary bottle of wine with dining there. If I'm ever back in Portugal I'll seek out Vila Gale again.
An excellent choicePosted Apr 21, 2012 on Hotels.com
The hotel and staff met all our expectations. It was modern, extra clean, and the staff were helpful. It's an easy walk to the heart of town and easy to get to from the highway. The only negative is that they charge for wifi in the room but it is free in the lobby.
