Quiet location but close to the city centre
Posted Jan 9, 2013
Pros: Location, comfortable room
Cons: Lift is a bit small if you had a lot of luggage!
Location: Close to the city centre but in a quiet street.
We were in Cologne for two nights and had a twin room. There was no outside noise in our room at all; I would expect that even the rooms at the front would be quiet as well, as the street doesn't seem to get much traffic. The room was quite small but comfortable, and perfectly adequate if, like us, you were out and about most of the day. The staff were very helpful, and speak good English. The city centre, including the main station and cathedral, is within walking distance, and there is an U-Bahn stop about 5 mins. away, so if you are looking for a place to stay while exploring the city it's a good choice. By the way, if you've looked at the hotel using Google's street view and were wondering about its rather colourful neighbours, don't be put off!

Ok on a budget. Walls are VERY thin.
Posted Jan 6, 2013
Pros: Clean.
Cons: Could hear everything from other rooms beside, above, below.
Location: Close to market strip
Ok place to stay on a budget. Walls are absolutely paper thin, expect to hear your neighbours snoring. Bring ear plugs. Clean rooms/hotel. Shower very small, water pressure difficult to regulate, shower head loose = bathroom floor turns into a swimming pool unless you're really careful. Staff were nice.

OK especially if you are attending a trade fair.

Rooms are small and the shower has a cheezy shower curtain instead of a glass surround, so you have to take special care not to flood the floor. No air conditioning so if the room gets warm, you have to open the window, and deal with road noise. Breakfast was good. Short walk to the public transportation stop to take you to the Cologne Trade Fair grounds.

Nice enough hotel for the budget traveler.

Reasonably priced hotel. Location is fairly central - short walk from central station / cathedral. Hotel is located in what appears to be a bit of a rundown area. Would not recommend for families or the narrow minded. Sex shop located next door and another a few doors down. As far as I could tell the hotel did not appear to be in a red light district. Ideal for solo budget traveler or group of student friends. Felt like a safe enough place to walk around at night.

Very reasonable hotel for a very reasonable price
Posted Jan 12, 2013
Pros: Breakfast
Location: Situated between 2 sex shops, but if you look the other way you wont be offended!
Good transport links - underground 3 or 4 minutes walk away and the bus 132 goes straight to the Dom/Hbf from the same point. If you're fussy and want the earth for 3* star prices, don't go. If you're reasonable in your expectations, then this hotel will be ideal for a city break.

Don't book if you have a choice

The staff was unfriendly and rude. The breakfast was stale. Room was small and not maintained. Bathroom was even smaller with a stinky smell and water all over the floor. The location is in a shady place of the city.

Acceptable budget choice for singles, couples
Posted Jan 8, 2013
Pros: Budget and clean
Cons: Location not family-friendly
Location: Good for sightseeing or a quick stay
The hotel served our purpose of an economical option for spending one night in Cologne. The location was easy to find and great for walking to nearby squares, the skating rink and cathedral. It also positioned us in a side street next to shops for the gay community - not so great a location for families. The budget room was small but clean and sufficient, with an en suite and free wifi, and the buffet breakfast included in our tariff exceeded expectations. Staff were professional. Rooms are a bit noisy, particularly near the stairs or lift, but we got a good night's sleep.
