Stunning hotel!Posted Dec 14, 2013
This hotel is definitely worth the expense. The staff are completely devoted to ensuring your stay is memorable. The hotel and rooms are spotless and stunning. The location is perfect to all activities and there is no issue being close to the train station. I highly recommend this hotel.

Excellent location for Christmas marketsPosted Dec 9, 2013
Pros: Very friendly, professional staff and hotel position.
Cons: Downsides- WiFi is very expensive at, I think, over 19euros a day,
Location: Right next to the cathedral, railway station and Christmas markets.
A very expensive 5 star hotel with staff to match. Our deluxe room was large and comfortable with a King-size bed, writing desk and armchairs. We were on the side of the hotel so had only a view of the office block opposite. The bathroom is also roomy but the shower was only over the bath. I've never actually seen an over-bath rain shower before and it overflowed a little. Towels, toiletries and bath robes all excellent quality (though they had forgotten to provide the robes). A bonus is the free use of the mini-bar and a 1pm checkout. A problem with our air con was resolved fairly promptly.

Perfect location for Christmas Markets & CathedralPosted Dec 7, 2013
Pros: Everything from the staff to the location
Cons: Coffee/Tea making in the room Free internet for a hotel of this standard I would have thought that would have been a given
Perfect Hotel, Perfect Staff, Perfect Location. There were only two things that could have improved our stay, Coffee/Tea making available in the room and Free internet. Everything else could not be improved on.

Nice decor, service not as good.Posted Dec 3, 2013
Pros: The decor
Cons: See above
Location: Great location for most attractions, including Christmas Markets
Overall was a good experience, the room was very nicely decorated and comfortable, but there were some issues with service (although staff were very polite): We arrived early and they said they would call when the room was ready but they forgot to call. There are no tea/coffee facilities in room, we ordered two cups of tea, they forgot the milk, by the time the milk arrived the tea was cold and we were charged 18 Euros for two cups of cold tea!! Bit hard to swallow. Our friends who were staying in another room got a pillow menu - we didn't and didn't realize that one existed until we left, the pillows we had were very flat so we would have liked to have had a choice. We were also not told that the mini bar was complimentary (our friends were) and we found out after our stay. Eating there is very expensive (18 Euro cups of tea are an indication).

It is the best hotel I ever stayed in in my life, and we travel a LOT. The staff is very friendly and helpful, it is well located, and the rooms are extremely big, clean and comfortable.

Excellent Hotel with fantastic service and decorPosted Sep 19, 2013 on Hotels.com
I stayed at the Excelsior for a business conference. My first experience of the hotel was a doorman opening the car door, followed by a swift check in and being escorted to my room for a tour. My room was a great size with excellent storage facilities, and plenty of room to work or relax. The decor of the room is excellent, and that goes for the rest of the hotel. Room and laundry service is very prompt and all staff are extremely polite. The bar is also a very nice place to have a drink and relax, especially with the piano player providing a good sound track for your evening. The hotel is in the centre of the city, opposite the amazing Cologne Cathedral, and a few minutes from the main shopping district. If I'm in Cologne again this is where I will stay.

Historic jewel in KoelnPosted Aug 5, 2013 on Hotels.com
This 150-year-old hotel harks back to the glory days of grand hostelry. The sersvice is impeccable, the location literally across the street from Cologne's iconic catherdral, and only a few blocks from the Rhine riverfront. The neighborhood is ideal for cultural, food and drink.
