Same quirky comfort
Great hotel (we have stayed with "Friends" before, in Dusseldorf). Location is always the (sole) disappointment. Otherwise, brilliant!

Family stay
The family room, which is actually an apartment, was a perfect fit for our stay. The only thing we missed was a door for the children’s room so we could be a little more relaxed on our side of the apartment. The interior was nice, the cleaning could be a little bit better though.

Friendly clean quirky hotel
Very friendly hotel, extremely helpful staff who helped arrange taxis and recommended great places to eat/visit. Would recommend.

Fine place to stay the night
The hotel itself was fine, nice building and nice reception area. My room was clean but it was on the streetside and was pretty loud at night and because there are no thermostats in the rooms, my room got pretty hot at night and I had to open my window making it even louder. In addition, the beds are rather firm. When I was leaving my room, there were two men standing across the hall at doors to rooms not entering them and as soon as I left my room to check out in the morning, they began talking with me asking a lot of questions and it made me quite uncomfortable as a young solo female traveler

On top of the Japanese Gardens (Gorgeous!)
A dated hotel in need of refurbishment, BUT that is reflected in the price per night which was very good value indeed. desk staff helpful and friendly. We thought the breakfast was pricey at first, but then found we did not need to eat again until the evening due to the plentiful and highly varied buffet items. Do note - you'll need to travel into Cologne which is quite a way.

The room was clean,food was good give 2 out of 5.
Stuff are somewhat rude and unfriendly,unhelpful with queries . The place is grey and dark and dull. Apart from breakfast ,the food was good.

Ok., The Hotel is located in a nice area. However, if one wants to walk to ANY nearest shopping areas or coffee places, you must drive or take public transportation. The hotel contemporary decor (Nice!). The rooms are a bit small, and the Bed(s) are NOT comfortable, they’re 2 twins bed place together (not ideal). Please call in abvance and ask if you can get a ‘real’ queen size bed. If you’re a light sleeper, you will have an uncomfortable night. Overall, Hotel is nice, the staff is very nice. Oh! Breakfast is 15 euro. And at night one must ask the front desk if you can use the coffee machine. I was yelled at for serving my own coffee. Other than that, the staff was very nice. Best, Alex

Great find, fantastic price.
friends is a great place to stay, the rooms were funky cool the service was awesome, breakfast was amazing, and the bar was great too. Parking is available in front(limited) and on the side. they have a cool patio to hang out and have a drink or just unwind snd a ping pong table.

Cute place, very convenient for trip to Bayer (especially if you are down near D162 ) Had an excellent breakfast buffet, eggs, breakfast meats as well as European style meats, cheeses, musli etc etc.

Great Hotel when working at Bayer!
I have stayed at Hotel Friends for many many nights in 2017 and it has always given me great Service. It is very convenient for access to the Chempark/Bayer Offices. Ist unfortunate that the Hotel no longer has an inhouse Restaurant in the evening but the breakfasts are pretty good. There are also some rooms that have a small kitchen which are very good if you get bored of eating out!

Nice but far from city centre
Hotel was nice but had no air conditioning and as it was so hot when we were there, it made our stay very uncomfortable. Fairly far from the city centre, taxi there cost about 30 euros and I only seen one bus stop in the area.

We arrived about 11am and asked if there was any chance of an early check in. A very polite young lady said she would do her best and we should come back at noon.We left it until 1pm and returned to ask. Obviously there had been a shift change, and when we asked, we were given a lecture on the hotel policy and were told they were busy and that rules are 3pm. This person was so rude, and think she realised she had gone too far when we said we were not demanding merely enquiring. So, not a good start. While we were waiting we went into the Amici restaurant which is part of the hotel, where we ordered a drink then changed our minds and wanted some food, the waitress for some reason, was not happy, but gave a menu then walked away then did not come back, had to go to the bar to order. The next morning went to the restaurant again at the breakfast buffet there were no eggs and we asked, if there were any more. She shouted across the restaurant that we should go to the buffet. You would have thought we had asked for gold! Have been insulted in better places! Must be said the rest of the staff were really nice

The hotel is clean and comfortable. Restaurent staff was quite pleasing. But the front desk staff were less than helpful! Plus, the hotel is nowhere near the city center as claimed. IF you know the metro system and can figure out transportation on your own, it would be OK. For a first visit to Koln though, don't depend on hotel staff for support.

On arrival, we were told that we only booked 2 singles instead of 1 single 1 double. After this being resolved, we were given our rooms. Within minutes, our friend reported dirty towels, leftover pizza etc in his room. Obviously miscommunication between housekeeping and front desk. He was given another room...a smaller one than the original one. I would have assumed that an upgrade would have been in order rather than a downgrade? Our room was pleasant, and clean, assuming that the stains on the carpet were old and attempts to remove them had been made at some point in the past. Main positive was the balcony, which, as smokers was much appreciated. The springs in the mattress were a bit to close to the surface and my back did not thank me for it. Why a toilet seat would be horse shoe shaped, with a straight back is utterly beyond me. I have seem many posteriors in my life, none of them was square at the back.. The internet was a bit hit and miss, but it did work once or twice. I was rather appalled by the bottle of complimentary water at the reception having something looking akin to mucus floating in it, as well as the rather lacklustre apology from the staff about it.

Not a 4 Star, a 1 star hotel -priced as a 3 star
The hotel is advertised as a 4 star rated Hotel, but in my opnion, it eally is just a basic 1 star hotel and this is reflected in the price, I was disappointed with my selection as soon as I approached the hotel on the main road, The worst of it was, that I seleceted the hotel for my business colleagues as well, and this is now a source of much embarassment for me

Not the best
I had a lot of issues with this hotel. It is cheaper than the rest, but it is because it has some disadvantages. First, the location is not great. It is outside of town, yes, but it is a 1 mile walk from hotel to the the train into the center. Yeah there is a bus to the train there but it would take longer than walking. Second my shower leaked horribly. They eventually fixed it, but only somewhat. Third the front desk tried to charge me for stuff I did not order, so check closely. Fourth the elevator takes forever. I think you can do better in Cologne. Even during Carnival when things are really expensive.

Great stay
Although i only stayed for the 1 night it was quite apparrent that all would be well by the welcome I received. Room was clean and tidy albeit a bit noisy from passing traffic in the morning. Food & service from the restaurant was excellent. Would deffinately stay again.

The hotel room was nice. It was quiet and clean. It was off the beaten path to get to any tourist sites. The hotel was located on the other side of the river. The hotel bar and the restaurant were good. Our telephone in our room did not work, and the internet in the business centre was extremely slow. But, the front desk allowed us to use one of their computers to plan the rest of our travel arrangements. All in all, the hotel was nice and welcoming. I would stay there again.
