Do not recommend this hotel.Posted Nov 25, 2013
Cons: They should not rent at all rooms that present bad smell problems and undesire pipe noises.
This is the second and last time I book this hotel. I was given a room in the old part of the hotel that smell like a seward. I could hear all the pipelines when the toilets of other rooms were flushed. I requested the reception to change the room with no luck. The smell problem continued throughout my stay, the hotel only spray some deodorant, that did not help at all. I am very dissappointed with the service receive at what I consider an expensive hotel for what I receive in return.

Good value hotel close to stationPosted Sep 23, 2013
Pros: Clean and modern plus friendly staff They've made the most of limited room space with innovative furniture designs
Cons: Slightly larger table to give enough workspace
Location: A 5 minute walk from the main train station and the Dom (cathedral)
The hotel is clean and modern with a welcoming reception area and friendly staff representing very good value for money. The breakfast buffet was excellent and the servers (for tea and coffee) were very attentive. Having stayed in several hotels in Cologne, I would definitely return to this one. For me there were just two minor drawbacks - the table / desk in my single room was a bit small (just large enough to take my notebook computer), and the location is slightly away from the main tourist area.

Good for SpogaPosted Sep 10, 2013
Pros: The beds!
Cons: The smell from the drains
Location: bit of a rough area, but close to the train station
Lovely staff, cannot fault them. Easy to find, about 30 euro from airport, 12 euro to spoga or right by the train station. Beds were blissfully comfy However, our room very overlooked, very noisey and sadly smelt of "drains". Not sure I would go back, shame as otherwise very good. We didnt eat here either.

Disappointing hotelPosted Sep 4, 2013
Pros: Breakfast and internet
Location: A little walk from central station (and the Dom)
Was misled by those good reviews when choosing this hotel. Its room turns out to provide very little comfort. Shower is tiny and not well illuminated. TV is very small and out-dated. It is also surprising that you are given a key instread of a key card for a 3-star hotel. All furnitures are highly crude and look like they've been hand-made by hotel manager herself. However, breakfast is not bad, and Internet speed is fast. Overall I would say if you are seeking a place for a very short stay, this is your hotel.

BusinessPosted Aug 31, 2013
Frankly, Hotel Cristall is a good product with a very basic service. Positive, a good location, I had great large room. Negative, my first hotel ever with water problems. There was a water breakage for more than an hour, no apologies, no explications afterwards. Very poor! The wifi is below the average. The staff was not so friendly and certainly prepared to tell about available gyms in town. A standard question for business travelers especially as the hotel does not have training facilities.

Inexpensive, noisy, hot, some plumbing problemsPosted Aug 26, 2013
Pros: The staff
Cons: The comfort
Location: Close to the cathedral
I think we probably got what we paid for. In summary: - good location for walking to the cathedral area. Having now be there, I'm not sure walking to the cathedral area is the best thing to do (certainly not via the train station in the evening as there are a lot of undesirables) - no air conditioning. In hindsight, a huge omission on my part for a July visit. Could not sleep. - bathroom flooded when using the shower - very helpful reception staff; helped us locate a 'proper' local restaurant where the service was ambivalent at best, the food was good, the beer was great and there were not so many tourists

Great city breakPosted Aug 18, 2013
Pros: The breakfast and the decor
Cons: When we were there, weather was very hot & our room did not have air conditioning. Window was not near bed & so there was not much breeze at night.
Location: Very close to the main railway station (but we didn't hear the trains) and the cathedral. Very convenient.
Very convenient for station and cathedral, about 5 minutes walk. Other side of the bridge, there are cheaper shops for drinks/snacks/packed lunches. The hotel is very nicely decorated and the breakfast was extremely good - good quality cold meats & cheeses and plenty of fresh fruit and yoghurt. The only thing we found is that because we had chosen a room without air conditioning, it was very hot in the room especially at night but that was because the weather was hot at the time of our visit. The room was quiet and we got good wifi. I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again without hesitation.

Handy location but basic hotel.Posted Aug 16, 2013
The hotel was extremely close to the train station and cathedral which was very handy for us as we were travelling by train. However, when we arrived and checked in we were given a smoking room which reeked of stale smoke - despite specifically requesting a non-smoking room. They promptly moved us to the only remaining empty room however it was on the ground floor which proved a little noisy at night (the room got very hot so we had to have the windows open) and the bathroom was a bit smelly. The hotel itself at first glance looks quite clean and modern but on closer inspection is a bit tatty around the edges. Other than that the room was fine if basic. The bathroom again was fine although the shower cubicle was a bit cramped. Breakfast was fine. Overall we were a little disappointed but for the price we couldn't expect too much!
