Very convenient city centre hotelPosted Feb 22, 2014
Pros: Easy acces to the sites around Cologne.
Cons: Nothing - it suited my needs perfectly.
Location: A pleasant and easy walk into the heart of the city and other historically interesting sites. Easy access to the train station for longer trips.
Great city break. The hotel was convenient for the city centre and train station. The staff were helpful and pleasant. The room was comfortable, clean and quiet.

Ideal Location for Christmas Markets!Posted Feb 7, 2014
Pros: Free WIFI during all of your stay! Ladies, they have exceptional hairdryers and a great magnified mirror in the bathroom!
Location: Definitely advise that you pay a visit to Jameson's Bar just a stones throw away. We enjoyed karaoke here on Fri&Sat night and the staff were great!
Me and my partner travelled to the Mercure in Koln in December 2013 to enjoy the Christmas Markets for a long weekend. We caught a train from the airport into Koln City Centre which was very cheap and easy, and then taxi'ed it onto the hotel from there. We checked in with ease the staff on reception were friendly and helpful. It was immaculate and the lobby had an impressive Christmas tree on show. Our room was spacious, with the comfiest of beds. On our first night we ate in the hotel restaurant as we were tired from travelling. We both ordered Goulash, which was spot on - as long as you've got a good appetite (the portions weren't for the faint hearted). The weather was fine and clear until the last night when we had heavy rain. It was a 15 min brisk walk to the Cathedral. There were various Christmas Markets dotted around the city - all of which served food snacks, drinks and sold an array of hand made glassware, wooden products, etc. These were a delight to visit, especially at night when they were all light up under the main Christmas tree and each stall dotted with lights. We'd recommend a drink in the Ski Bar within one of the Christmas markets, next to the Ice Rink. They had traditional beers, fur throws upon the seats and an array of skates hanging above you from the ceiling. The Koln Triangle is worth a look, it's only a few euro's to go to the top and you can get some pretty impressive views / photo's of the area from over 100 metres up.

First stayed at this hotel in 2002. Nothing has changed. The hotel has not been redecorated, and the rooms have not changed. I would describe the hotel as adequate, although a perfect location for what we needed. No trouble or complaints. Nice bar, nice cold beer.

Great locationPosted Jan 2, 2014
I really cannot understand the negative reviews about this hotel. It's located 150 metres from the UBahn and busy shopping street, and a 10/15 minutes walk from the Dom Hauptbanhoff. The room I stayed in was spotlessly clean and very modern. I didn't partake of the breakfast but there are many places to eat in the vicinty, including food outlets at the Hauptbanhoff. The staff were efficient and friendly. I most certainly would stay here again.

Pros: As above
Cons: A safe for valuables would be useful, also more English Breakfast tea bags if required! We were told there was only one spare tea bag in the hotel!
Location: This hotel is in a great location for the Dom, Christmas Markets, shopping centre and the Rhine. The museums are also within easy walking distance.
The hotel was clean, comfortable and in a good location for the Christmas Markets, being a ten minute walk away from most of them. The room was in a quiet location despite overlooking the road. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were able to check in upon arrival at 1.00 pm and leave our luggage in a locked room after checking out. We were pleasantly surprised to have a complimentary mini-bar awaiting us, as well as tea and coffee making facilities.

Pros: Location, cleanliness.
Cons: The attitude of bar staff was sometimes bordering on unhelpful.
Location: We'll positioned for all the Christmas markets. Not too far to walk to the Dom and good shopping centre plus good restaurants and bars nearby.
Enjoyed the hotel. We'll positioned. Reception staff very helpful. Bar staff a little evasive sometimes but on the whole a good stay.

Pleasant hotel well placed in lively part of townPosted Nov 17, 2013
Pros: Location. Price for comfort.
Stayed here several times. Rooms vary from great to average. All quite bland and colourless but clean and comfortable. This time we had a smaller room with a long high window that looked into (not over) a roof so disappointing. Hotel facilities are poor - no gym etc. Breakfast good if expensive. But all in it's well located in a modern lively part of the city around 15 minutes walk from the train station and good value.
