Nicely located, but very noisy on the weekends

Posted Aug 5, 2014
Nice hotel, with a helpful staff. Nicely situated as it is a short walk to most of the major spots, but away from all the traffic. A pleasant 10-12 minute walk to the Cathedral and about 15 minutes from Neumarket and the Rhine River. Tons of restaurants and cafes very close by. Only negative is that it is located by a number of bars that on the weekend stay open until 4-5am and can get (and stay) very loud. Overall, I would recommend it.

Good location, average hotel

Posted May 30, 2014 on Hotels.com
The hotel is well located around 10 minutes walk from the Dom. The street itself was very lively, with lots of bars and restaurants within a short walk, including the excellent Paffgen brewery. Luckily, we had a room facing away from the street - I think a room facing the street would be very noisy at night, particularly at the weekend. The room itself was comfortable enough, although nothing special, with quite a small bathroom and no view as we were on the 2nd floor. Overall, a reasonable choice for an affordable stay not too far away from the old town.

Very reasonably priced, fantastic location, only a 2 minute walk from the lively part of town and only 10 minutes to the busy shopping streets and the lovely old town. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.

Final visit

Posted Apr 8, 2014
Despite paying for the the room in advance we were still required to pay a deposit of 75 euros upon checking in. I find this to be somewhat arbitrary and was unable to ascertain from the front desk as to why this was. This is my third visit and I don't recall having had to pay this before. It was late and we were anxious to get on with our weekend so I did not query it any further. However I will not be using a Mercure hotel again unless it is absolutely necessary.
