Pleasant hotel in walking distance of Crew Stadium

Posted Sep 23, 2014
Pros: The room was big and comfy and clean, with nice decor.
Cons: The breakfast buffet had lots of hot/cold food, but some of it was not very tasty (dry biscuits, weird gravy, icky sausage (which my husband liked, th
Location: Ohio Expo Center is right next door. Crew stadium is about a 10-15 minute walk.
We stayed here to attend a Columbus Crew soccer game. There was free parking at the hotel, which was easy to find. Check-in was facilitated by a very friendly front desk clerk, who also knowledgeably gave me info on the neighborhood we were in. We could walk to the stadium in about 15 minutes, which was a great convenience.

Pros: Not much.
Cons: Service, rooms need to be upgraded--broken tiles in bathroom should be repaired.
Location: We were there for a wedding, didn't have time to do anything else.
Room not ready when we arrived so cleaning staff moved from another room to clean ours. We were not by the pool but the room smelled strongly of chlorine. We were not told about hours for complimentary breakfast when we checked in.

good and bad

Pros: Convenient to the Ohio Convention Center/State Fair.
Cons: Clean the rooms and the elevators better.
Location: Ohio Convention Center and a McDonalds is about it.
Across from the Ohio Event Center which was very convenient. The hotel has a nice pool area and continental breakfast is included. Negatives - the front desk clerk was hard to understand (accent) and the maid did a very poor job of cleaning our room. She did not vacuum, left a dirty coffee pot, didn't leave Styrofoam coffee cups for the 2nd day. Maybe it is due to the fact that she had her very young son along with her while she was working. (???) The room itself was spacious with a nice desk area, fridge, microwave and sitting area. The breakfast was well stocked and had a nice variety of food. No restaurant on site but there was a McDonald's on the corner within walking distance and you could also order delivery to the room from a few local pizza places. The neighborhood around the hotel was pretty sketchy. I would not have wanted to be out after dark being unfamiliar with the area.

Ohio State Fair Trip

Posted Jul 30, 2014
Pros: Close to the State Fair
Cons: The hotel could really use a remodel
Location: Perfect location if attending the State Fair
If you're going to the Ohio State Fair this hotel is within walking distance. We weren't looking for anything fancy, just a clean convenient place to stay while we attended the fair. It took all of 5 minutes to get to the front gate from the hotel which was really nice. The room was clean but rather worn. Nice size fridge and microwave. The bathroom was large & clean with plenty of clean towels, but some of the fixtures were damaged or broken. There is an indoor pool but it's small & it gets pretty noisy when there are a lot of kids in there, but that's to be expected. Overall, I would recommend the hotel to anyone who wants to go to the fair just for the convenience. If you're really picky, find a different hotel.

OSU

Spent two nights while attending freshman orientation at OSU. Nice hotel, clean comfortable rooms. Only issue we had was the hot food they offered for breakfast was gross. Eggs where still ½ frozen, gravy looks like to was reheated from yesterday. Ended up going to McDonalds for breakfast the 2nd day.

Buckeye Visit

Posted Jul 18, 2014
Pros: friendly staff, clean rooms, fresh linens daily
Cons: back door needs to be repaired - not a secure entrance; need to change brands of coffee; appeared that maid brought her kids to work with her
Location: convenient to I-71; easy access to Ohio State Fair Grounds and Ohio State University
My wife and I accompanied our oldest grand-daughter to an elite softball camp at OSU. The hotel itself is nice - outward appearance is above average and lobby is even better. Room was more than I expected. Breakfast was adequate but little variety from day to day (we stayed 3 nights). If you arrive from 11th Ave on Clara Street, the industrial area is aged and not overally inviting. From 17th Street, there's a McDonald's and Days Inn. Across the street is the Ohio State Fair Grounds. There nothing threatening about the area - we felt safe. There is some noise from the nearby I-71 but nothing that kept us awake at night. We didn't get a chance to use the pool or workout facility. This is a good facility but now knowing the area better, we would probably stay closer to the university.
