Walking distance to the stadium!

Posted Oct 20, 2014
Pros: Location!!
Cons: The bathroom needed to be updated. It was difficult to get the water to a desirable temperature and the light was burnt out in the bathroom.
Location: This hotel was in the perfect location for the Buckeyes game! We were in walking distance, which was great.
We only stayed one night to go to the Buckeyes game. The hotel definitely isn't fancy, but was nice enough. The staff was pleasant and helpful.

Hotel close to OSU Medical Center

Posted Oct 17, 2014
Pros: Close proximity to OSU. Very nice room at a very reasonable price. Also close to shopping & multiple restaurants, many within walking distance.
Cons: WiFi could be stronger.
Location: see above
Spent 3 nights while getting medical examinations at OSU.

No frills but good enough

Posted Oct 14, 2014
Pros: Proximity and price.
Cons: Update the equipment and address the smell.
Location: On the edge of campus, close to highway, and very close to several fast food places.
I needed an affordable room within reach of downtown and this served the purpose. The room had a dank smell to it but seemed clean enough. Comfortable bed. Old and cracked AC unit that was either too cold or too hot. Noise level not too bad. This place was probably a Motel 6 or Motel 8 that was bought up and given a new name.

Pros: It is close to the University, it's clean and well-maintained, and it's affordable.
We were in Columbus very briefly, to visit our grandson, who is a senior at Ohio State U. We arrived around 3 pm Saturday, and departed early Monday morning. On Sunday we got to hear our grandson give his senior trumpet recital. We chose the Varsity Inn because it is close to the campus.

Economic motel meets needs.

Posted Oct 13, 2014
Pros: Stated above.
Cons: The towels leave a lot to be desired; they were thin and on the small side.
Location: Explained above.
This facility was efficiently operated and was more than adequate for our two night stay. Close to West 5th Ave. shops and dining as well as to O.S.U. The shower was excellent, the king sized bed was very comfortable and the television was perfect. The heat was quick and comfortable on a chilly night. The cost was less than half of the hotel next door. The Bob Evans restaurant was very convenient being just a few steps across the parking lot. I will stay here again on my next trip to Columbus.

Inexpensive hotel good for passing through

Posted Oct 13, 2014
Pros: Quick check in and check out, not too expensive, and clean
Cons: While clean, the furnishings are on the worn/lumpy side
But it's not somewhere I'd want to stay for a long time or often. It's convenient and inexpensive for the options close to OSU, but it's right next to the train tracks and the rooms are on the small side.

Reasonable, but could use some additional touches.

Very comfy bed, but not a lot else. We woke up to find empty beer cans outside our door from the overnight party of guests above. We also would have liked a better place for the continental breakfast they served, it was just a room. But cost was cheaper than all others, so that was good.

Pros: Close to University Hospital
Cons: broken lock on door. Mold in shower. TV Cabinet doors missing and back coming off. Not enough electrical outlets for todays travelers.
Location: Bob Evans next door
In general the Varsity Inn is just in need off a good updating.

Typical Motel, short drive to University, pets OK

Posted Sep 14, 2014
Pros: I needed to be close to University and I had a dog with me. This place met both needs well.
Location: On a main road, near a freeway, a few blocks from the University. Starbucks, fast food and shopping are all close by.
Has a unique drive through check-in window so you don't have to get out of the car to get your key. Allows pets for $10 extra. Room is nothing special, it's a place to sleep. Has a desk with a wall socket by it. AC and bed were decent and I slept well. Only caveat is that there's a train track literally a stones throw from the rear of the building and during the day and into the evening, long, loud freight trains rumble through. At night there were no more trains. I lowered the Room Comfort score for that because it can be disruptive. If I had occasion to go to Ohio State again I would consider staying here again.
