Has potential
The food and the service was very good. The place itself could be amazing. The thing that let it down for us was the cleanliness. It felt like the whole place could do with a deep clean.

Don't choose this hotel
It is totally unacceptable, We pay £89 for one night, we are late check in about 10p.m. We found that there are many spider nets on the top of the room, white and big, just like a abandoned house just leave there for decades. We request change room, but there are only two and fully booked. Couldn't imagine who would like to sleep over night facing the spider net. And we ask the lady could we refund or refund half to us because we are decide to book another room cause my little daughter is scared to cry. She said we could apply online through hotels.com but she turn around refused to refund us by replying hotels.com, I don't know why the hotels.com only protecting their own interests. It is unreasonable and unacceptable paying £89 for living a room, like this one, it is my first time in my life go to a hotel room like this. Nerver book this hotel.

Staff were very friendly and accommodating and the Inn is in a great location, with generous, spacious rooms. The breakfast was delicious. Our stay would have been perfect if any care had been given to the standards of hygiene. Our room was covered in cobwebs, the shower drain covered in hairs, and the same with the bedsheets. It's a shame that it is not seen as important to not use pillow cases with mascara stains, or to carry out the basic task of vacuuming a rug, which was pretty disgusting. When I mentioned this to the staff, I was told that this was due to the hotel being 'dog friendly'. A very poor excuse for not maintaining basic standards of hygiene. Overall, a few basic steps would have really elevated our stay.

Look beautiful but poor up close.
The Engine Inn was brilliantly located between Penzance and St Ives and had fantastic local views. The room was spacious and had the potential to be amazing. Unfortunately it was not. The bed stunk although the linen was freshly washed. Bathroom was an excellent size, really useful if you require a wet room but covered in mould and people’s hair who had used it before us. No toilet roll and now shower gel etc to use. The room looks beautiful but it’s really let down. Be warned, if you are downstairs the take ear plugs because the noise from upstairs is so loud - not much management can do about that, it’s an old building with old floorboards but just a helpful tip.

Look no further for the quaint country experience
We had such a lovely stay at the Engine Inn! The countryside views from the garden are absolutely stunning, the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail and chat with the locals. Owner Bianca was so friendly, and she offers an amazing full breakfast for a great value. The rooms are very cozy, with the exposed beams and rustic decor reminiscent of a simpler time. We would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice country escape!

The room was far above our expectations. The views were outstanding, although very rural only 5 min drive to St Ives so best of both worlds. The pub itself served good beer and great food and we will return.

Perfect for couples on a budget.
The landlady of this quaint little pub was very welcoming. The views are absolutely stunning. The accomodation was spacious but a little basic (converted stone barn with a slightly under power heater). We are looking forward to a return visit in slightly warmer weather.

Great Rural Pub
Thank you to Karen and Adrian for making us feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The pub has a real friendly atmosphere where locals make you feel part of the community. The accommodation across the yard was very pleasant and spacious. The king size bed was very comfortable. It is not far from St Ives and Penzance but you do need a car.

A wonderful stay
The guest house itself is located at the back of the pub while facing a beautiful country side view. Rooms are nicely decorated and the bed is comfortable. The best part about the experience was definitely the hotel staff! Everyone was so friendly and easy to talk to. Instead of given a breakfast menu to choose from, we were told the chef could make anything that we want. Because we have to leave early on the second day, the owner brought us takeaway breakfast to make sure we had something to eat in the morning. She even called us a taxi to ensure we get on coaches on time. The disavantage is that there were no signal or wifi in the inn. You would have to come to the pub for wifi. The inn is located somewhere between St Ive's and penzance. There is only one bus that goes past the hotel, so it may be less suitable for those thinking of traveling around cornwall without a car.

Lovely Pub and very dog friendly..Would recommend the Pulled Pork absolutely delicious..Great room which is ideal if you need to come back early, Maybe because of weather as it's separate to the Pub..Very quiet..Only qualm was maybe the Wet Room needs tidying up a bit..Will definitely go there again if we are in those parts again....

THE ENGINE INN IS FABULOUS
This is a country pub with all the trimmings. The owners, Adrian and Karen are the perfect hosts. The room we stayed in was perfect. The walk in shower was brilliant, Perfect for the less mobile traveller. It was spotlessly clean and the food was excellent.Great breakfast as well. Whenever I am back in this area I will definitely stay at The Engine. Full marks all round. It is also dog friendly.

Left early as accommodation was so poor.
Damp and moldy room, moldy bathroom and broken fittings. Dirty headboard, cobwebs and spiders behind the bed. Asked for a refund and was given a long statement all about the terms and conditions of being paid by your company. My complaining ,leaving early and asking for 2 of my 4 nights money back £164.34 was classed as not payable as it was a "late cancellation" Was offered upstairs accommodation in the same damp building, which we refused. Was told this is what I should expect when staying in a Grade 2 listed building barn conversion.( I owned the same on Dartmoor for 10 years which was converted to the highest standard.)

A really good, friendly Inn.
This was a four night stay as part of a 16 night holiday. The Engine Inn is remote and in wonderful scenery. Criplesease is not much more than the Inn itself! The rooms are in a converted barn one on the ground and one on the first floor and are very generously sized. We had the first floor with excellent shower room and lots of space. The Inn provides first class food and is very popular with locals who must come a long way to get there! We have never before had the answer we got when asking for the breakfast menu. "There is no menu, tell us what you want and we will make it!" First class all round.

Character, cuisine and company!
I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. Location, "staff" (more like on-location buddies!), room, food and final touches were all simply perfect. We arrived late after an early start and looooong drive. We found the Engine Inn and were welcomed by Adrian who showed us out back to our accommodation. I was gobsmacked and admittedly relieved! I thought the rooms would be above the pub but it's actually a separate building out back. The bed was huge and the room authentic. I wasn't looking for high class splendour - I wanted character and history and a real feel of Cornwall which is exactly what this accommodation gave in abundance. We had dinner in the pub and it was our best meal in Cornwall! The gammon was cooked to perfection - the pasty a marvellous introduction to that Cornish delicacy. Breakfast was whatever we wanted at a time that we wanted it. The Cook was fantastic company first thing in the morning chit chatting in between serving. We didn't get the weather that we wanted in Cornwall at all which was a massive disappointment for me but that didn't and couldn't detract from the good feelings we left with from the Engine Inn. On check out I never got to thank Adrian and Karen for our stay so I hope this review will suffice. Thank you so much! We loved everything about the Engine Inn❤️

Very warm welcome on arrival . Shown to a fantastic little room with a massive bed and home made short bread ! We went to the pub for dinner in the evening and had an engine pie it was great value for money . Friendly atmosphere and great live band on too We where asked when we wanted breakfast in the morning the night before . The breakfast is self was fantastic !!! All freshly cooked and not greasy . Not sure what the little round meaty things where but still ate them as they where tasty All in all a great stay

A big thumbs up.
Karen and Adrian have recently took over the pub and accommodation. We couldn't of asked for a more friendly welcome from not only Karen but also from all the staff, from the barman to cleaner to the chef. The setting of the pub is in beautiful countryside with amazing views, the accommodation is a separate building that is beautifully decorated and ultra clean, the bed huge and very comfortable. We were lucky to be staying on a night when there is live music, and we were made to feel as one of the locals. On the menu a good choice of food and cooked nicely, good value for money. Morning after with a hangover, the chef not only provided me with a big mug of coffee but paracetamol came free. Lovely breakfast and nothing was too much trouble. Sad to leave and we will definitely be returning.

Great pub!
These folks are trying really hard to develop a B&B but there is a lot of room for improvement. Their pub is outstanding! Room was less so. People are great but somewhat overshadowed by mold on walls and wet room bath. Would definately return for the pub-not the room.

Would not recommend
Placed between St Ives and Penzance, it is reasonably well located. Other than the pub there are no local amenities. The accommodation is a converted barn at the back of the pub. It has 2 rooms that sit over one another. The pub seems nice but we didn't eat or drink there. The staff were friendly but we only saw them on check in and check out. We stayed 2 nights and the room was not cleaned. As the property is to the rear of the pub, the accommodation is surrounded by general rubbish from the pub, i.e. empty barrels, broken furniture, rubbish bins etc. The view from the garden over the hills is spectacular. We stayed in the upper accommodation, which is huge and in keeping with the traditional barn feel. There is ample furniture inside the room and has its own shower, toilet and sink (no bath). The room, being a big converted barn was very cold (Easter Weekend) and we had to rely on a small floor standing electric heater on full blast to warm the space. The walls and beams were dusty and full of cobwebs. The TV was broken as were some of the lights. The bathroom was very cold and difficult to keep warm. The drains smelled of sewerage and the bathroom was infested with insects. Only 2 small bath towels provided and poor quality. The quality of the overall conversion from barn to accommodation is very poor and done cheaply. I believe the pub will unfairly profit from the seasonal holiday demand but your money is better spent elsewhere.

Country Pub
I was sick and appreciated the homely cottage to rest in for three days instead of a hotel room. My husband was able to go sightseeing and call back and see if I was ok. The owners met requests for food that I felt I could eat. The surrounding areas were beautiful.
