Central to Padstow

Posted Jul 2, 2014
Pros: Friendliness and helpfulness of staff. Lovely views from the dining areas. Right in Padstow.
Cons: Bathroom tiles could do with updating.
Location: Padstow is a busy town with nice shops and plenty of restaurants and pubs. Brass Band and choirs perform at the harbour which is lovely.
Excellent staff. Room was nice and clean but bathroom tiles could do with updating. Food in restaurant was a good standard. Lovely view of the estuary from the room but it was noisy as they dredge the estuary and transfer the sand to a lorry every day, morning and night.

Faded grandeur

Posted Jun 4, 2014
We stayed for just one night at the Metropole. Staff were very welcoming. The "welcome" tea and biscuits in the bar was a lovely touch. Breakfast was excellent. Room size was great and everything was very clean. Location is great with a little passageway straight into the heart of Padstow. The only slight negative that I imagine some people might not like is that the hotel is a bit faded and possibly in need of a refurb, however this did not detract from a great stay there.

Lacking any homeliness

Posted May 23, 2014
Pros: Location and parking
Cons: Wifi Internet access and breakfast wait staff to ensure tables ready for all guests
Location: Next door to Rick Stein's Seafood Restaurant and 5 min stroll into the main centre of town and more foodie places.
We were greeted by friendly reception staff and parking on site was easy. There is a lift which made getting to the second floor easy with bags. The room overlooked the harbour which was lovely, and it was clean and compact. Do be aware it is an old building with creaky floors. The Internet was very poor on our second floor room and we had to go downstairs and use it in one of the lounges. The breakfast staff need some training in efficient service in order to have tables cleared and cleaned for all patrons. The location is great and is not far from the centre of town and easy to find driving in.

Very pleasant

Pros: The staff, helpful and friendly from reception, restaurant and cleaning staff. Free wifi in your room.
Cons: Toiletries available in the room, there was not any hair conditioner.
Location: Walk along the estuary nad the town itself.
Stayed at the Monopole Hotel, Padstow for 2 nights. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Was looking for a place to have dinner on the first night, had a look around Padstow and then decided on the restaurant in the hotel , called 'The Harbour', I believe. The food was very good and would recommend the restaurant. Had lovely views of the estuary, and the waiting staff were excellent.

Comfortable Victorian hotel .

Posted Feb 10, 2014
We only stayed one night because we were treated to a meal at one of the local restaurants ,but the Victorian hotel was very welcoming with complementary tea or coffee and tasty biscuits. It was very close to the harbour and to where we wanted to be.The room was clean and comfortable with bottled water ,tea and coffee facilities provided. There was a good choice for breakfast,Would stay there again

Great as ever

Every time I come to Padstow I stay at the Metropole and it is the same high standard of hotel as it was on my first visit in 2006. Its closeness to the Seafood Restaurant makes it prime location and the hotel staff were excellent as ever.

Great Location

Posted Nov 4, 2013 on Hotels.com
Great location and hotel staff were friendly and polite. However the room was very disappointing, including the view of the shed and fire escape! There wasn't a floorboard that didn't creak and one of the lampshades had actually melted and burnt. There was mould on some of the bathroom tiles and although it was spacious accommodation it is in dire need of updating. No comparison to the photographs on the website. Unlikely to stay at this hotel again.

None of our group of 6 were impressed and would not go back.

The hotel was very grubby and tired looking inside. The dining room floor was not hoovered from the evening before. Full of crumbs and fluff...not nice at all.The bedrooms were small . Very disappointed indeed as it looked nice on the internet. Very expensive for what you get!
