Isolated romantic luxuryPosted Nov 27, 2013
Pros: Peace in the rainforest. Romantic and inspiring.
Cons: Make sure the guests recognise that there will be no staff to welcome them or assist them readily.
Location: Umu's restaurant is wonderful; it's a 3-4 min drive into the town.
An extremely nice place to retreat to - perhaps for a romantic escape or to get inspiration and peace for an artist or writer. Very good facilities including outdoor bath and a fireplace, and a decent full kitchen. Helpful tourist info folder (could be updated though). An interesting and artistic layout and original decor. NB only drawbacks are that the host is not going to be on site to tend to your needs, you're almost completely alone; and it's at least 15 mins walk to any kind of shop or restaurant.

No Staff, No Security, No RefundsPosted Nov 20, 2013
Cons: Staff could be present to greet you with a key, and the doors should absolutely not be left open all day.
Location: Coromandel Town is quaint, but lacks much to do aside from the local tavern.
I arrived at the "hotel" in the early afternoon, only to find nobody in sight, the doors to the room open wide, and a key sitting on the counter. There was no sign of anybody anywhere, so I called the contact number as instructed and got no answer. Given that the doors had been wide open for untold hours, giving full access to insects and local wildlife, not to mention people, my wife and I couldn't stay there. We found another place to stay (Green House Bed and Breakfast is highly recommended!) and continued with our honeymoon. After returning home, I contacted support for a refund and was denied, despite absolutely unacceptable conditions at the "hotel." Do not book this room.
