“Good Value”

The Western was just what we had hoped for -- clean, comfortable accommodations with a few amenities (pool, good breakfast including oatmeal and biscuits/gravy) for a very reasonable price.

“Best bet for your money!”

The friendliness of the staff and the hot continental breakfast, along with the very reasonable price make this hotel a winner. Though the hotel is old, it is very clean and completely non-smoking!

“Inexpensive and clean”

It is an older hotel but was clean and staff was friendly. Cookies were good. Could offer a little more for breakfast (not into biscuits and gravy) but it was fine. It is pretty basic and a little noisy but wanted to spend less on hotel so we had more to spend at casino.

“Clean and affordable.”

This hotel was clean and very reasonably priced. It was right off of the interstate and near some shopping, pretty easy to navigate. The room did not have any frills, but when we got in, around 8 in the evening, they had chicken sandwiches available to guests, no charge. Breakfast was good, biscuits and gravy, cereal, pastries, groats (steel cut oats), cereal, and bagels. I think that there were hot dogs at dinner time, but I was not there to see that. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Not the Ritz, but not a dump, either!

“Great value for the price!”

Very clean, great location, value priced. Good hot breakfast, the biscuits were freshly baked and very good! Staff were friendly and accomodating. Great choice when all you need is a low-cost, safe and clean place to spend the night.

“Just what we needed”

We stayed here because it fit our budget. The other reviews said it was a clean place, and it was. We couldn't believe how much other available hotels were costing that weekend. Great breakfast: I had biscuits and gravy, with some oatmeal. Friendly staff. We were happy with our decision to stay there and as were were leaving said, "I'd stay here again."

“Friendly service, spotless room”

Western Inn is conveniently located right off of I-80, so for the traveler the location is great. The hotel personnel was very friendly, the room was spotless, as was the hotel and the breakfast was good and offered variety.

“Surprising little gem”

I have stayed in Council Bluffs many times but never thought to stay at the Western Inn until I got a good deal through Expedia. It doesn't look like much from the outside - though not run down at all. The location is behind a Dairy Queen/Gas Station and less than a 1/2 mile to the mall. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. They had flat screen tv's. The bathroom shower and toilet had been recently redone, but the counter tops were still older. The bedspreads were the quilted kind that I don't really like (prefer the fluffy comforters/duvet covers). The hotel staff was friendly and helpful - I lost a button on my jeans and they had a safety pin. The free breakfast was simple but good (biscuits, gravy, cereal, danish). No microwaves in the room but guests can use the microwave in the breakfast area. Free wi-fi and a good TV channel selection. All-in-all a great value for the price.

Area recommendations

By the mall or near the casinos is the best place to stay in Council Bluffs. I would avoid the hotels on 192 near the Walmart. Too many people and kids with not enough to do.
