Property Amenities
Near shopping, a ferry terminal, and a national marine park, this hotel sits on a sandy beach less than five km (three miles) from the city center. A dive shop and pier are on site.
Located on the beach in the southern section of Cozumel's hotel strip, the 12-story El Cid La Ceiba Beach Resort was renovated in spring 2006. The hotel features the Mayan-influenced Cocai Spa, with herbal treatments, massage services, and an enlarged sauna. Resort amenities include two swimming pools facing the Caribbean–the main pool features a children's pool and a tide pool has cascading waterfalls and vegetation. A spa tub is adjacent to the bar, and a fitness center is on site.
In the lobby, the hotel installed new tile flooring, ceiling fans, furniture, lamps, and anti-hurricane window curtains. From the lobby, guests can observe cruise-ship action at the two docks comprising Puerta Maya; they also can use the lobby's Internet access room at no charge.
Like most Cozumel hotels, El Cid recommends guests not drink tap water and supplies bottled water for a fee.

“El Cid.. a missed jewel...”
We stayed for a week at the El Cid in Cozumel. The hotel, in my opinon is a secret treasure. Close to town, a $7 cab ride in, but seems much closer to be able to enjoy Cozumel. The Hotel has a small beach access that adjoins the cruise ship pier which makes for interesting people watching as the huge ship spills the thousands of people out. I had heard the El Cid was a spot where they could come and spend the day, and worried they would crowd out the El Cid people. It never happened, there was always a spot to sit at the pool & ocean. We went for scuba diving, and dove with Babeica Diving, the on site dive operation. They were great, they offer small extremely fast boats with no more than 8-10 divers. The schedule was so nice as they left at 9:00 am (ish) so the mornings were never rushed. And since the boats were so fast we regularly beat the earlier boats to the best sites. For 3 days we were DM'd by Jonathon M, and he was GREAT!!!! The boats were covered, and had water and snacks for our timeouts between dives. They did put into shore for us to be able to get off the boat for a short time, which was wonderful. All in all the trip was wonderful, and I will return........
“unimpressed”
While we were there the staff was very kind, but the food was unimpressive, they were remodeling the pool while we were staying there without any other options of places to go swim. However, the snorkeling at the hotel was very good (lots of fish.) It was pretty quiet, we went in September, and other than an occasional cruise ship the entire island was pretty dead.
“You might NOT get what you expected, BUT still a good value”
This hotel was definitely an older property, but was well maintained and functional. The price was really good for the area. Our only concern was that we ordered and paid for a room with a King bed, but got something a bit smaller than a Queen-size. We didn't complain, as we were tired and the full/queen was adequate for our needs. We were also confused by the description of the plans on the website--it said that we were on the european plan--and in one place that included a free breakfast. Apparently, not all rooms on the european plan include the free breakfast--so watch out! Food was INSANELY expensive in their restaurant, (for example, 4 oz of coke and 4 oz of ice costs about three dollars, with no free refills--so enough beverage for a meal adds about nine bucks to the tab). They provide a coffeemaker, but no coffee--so you need to bring that with you, too.
“Love La Ceiba”
My family and I have a relationship with the wonderful staff that take care of our every need and desire. Our friend Esther, has looked after us for many years and made La Ceiba our vacation home away from home. We hope next year we will be able to go back again.
“Great waterfront for snorkeling and feeding the fish. dive boat and dive shop 100 ft from room”
Great waterfront for swimming, snorkeling and feeding the fish. dive boat and dive shop 100 ft from room balcony. View the Cruise ships docked nearby. Luxury outdoor restaurant onsite with great fine cuisine. Warm swimming pools and jacuzzi swim up bar. Friendly staff. Close to town and Mega grocery but not in town, quieter. Our room was very clean, well decorated. Nice stovetop and microwave, small frig in room. I met Sophia from Sweden there at their beach. Arriva Arriva! Will be going back,
“Great Stay”
We had a great stay at El Cid and would recommend it to others. The staff was friendly and very accomodating. The hotel was nice enough and had a great view as well as a nice beach front and snorkeling area. We were in town to do some diving and had no problems with pick up at El Cid's dock. We decided not to do the all inclusive package and we were glad we didn't. We tried the food at their restaurant on site and were not impressed. Overall the hotel was in good shape, the staff was friendly and the food was average for how expensive it was.
“With a few changes, would be great!”
The biggest problem with the hotel room itself is their use of lighting. The ridiculous fluorescent bulbs used throughout the room, especially in the bathroom, frankly sucked. This is taking the green agenda a little too far. With regard to the hotel proper, I did not appreciate being accosted by the concierge as the representative of the time share program. The grounds were lovely and the staff very friendly and cooperative. Address the two problems above, and I would certainly come back.
“Needs Updating”
This resort is showing its age. The workout room is totally junk, a treadmill, stationary bike and stairstepper-- all old and /or broke. The hotel is very into selling its new development in Playa Carmen and has seen bettter days
“Awsome time”
Hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff were very friendly. The hotel dining was good along with the bar. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to go back.
“Value for the Price”
Love to stay at El Cid La Ceiba for our dive trips to Cozumel. The all inclusive meals are great and, the staff and service is excellent.
