Recent stay at Explorean

Posted Apr 13, 2015
Pros: The self-serve bar was great and I appreciated the quiet nature of the Explorean. All restaurants were very good, especially liked the Italian.
Cons: I think the desk staff could have been more flexible about changing excursions or at least follow through on making requests.
Location: There are lots of things to do if you like to snorkel, bike ride, eat at restaurants, shop.
We actually had reservations for Fiesta Americana but were told that our room wasn't available when we arrived at the hotel. Ricardo placed us at their other property which is directly behind the Fiesta. At first, I wasn't happy about the change. I really wanted an oceanfront room. However, the Explorean really did grow on me. It was very tranquil. We had access to all of the Fiesta Americana restaurants plus we received free excursions which is part of the Explorean experience. Our tour guide, Rocky, really helped make our trip. He was very knowledgeable about the area and just fun to be around. The service desk staff were so-so in terms of responding to requests but Rocky was very accomodating. The restaurant staff were very good. The only real downside to staying at the Explorean was that we had to ask for chairs for our balcony. Really? Also, there was no TV or minibar which I didn't really mind but some people might want a TV.

The best service I've ever had on vacation.

Everybody it was so friendly a few people stuck out and Jalico, Luis at the poolside bar and Sergio, the gentleman who carried our bags were fabulous. The food was amazing the atmosphere was amazing, you just cannot go wrong in Cozumel and certainly not at this hotel.

Smallish resort (I think less than 200 rooms). Not super fancy but very comfortable and relaxing. Not over crowded. Decent food, was recently remodeled with new restaurants added-this was a plus. Shrimp tacos on the beach were pretty amazing! Really nice and helpful staff. Very family friendly with plenty for the kids to do. Beach access was mostly for snorkeling (a little rocky) but you could get in to swim if needed. Would recommend heading to the beach up the road for ocean swimming. It's a short cab ride and totally worth it. The resort had plenty of places to sit and 'hang out' both by the pool and by the ocean without fighting over chairs. Some of the amenities were 'across the street'. Don't let this scare you. The street is lightly traveled, this was not an issue for us, at all.

Family Scuba Diving Vacation

Posted Apr 5, 2015
Pros: The new restaurants were definitely an improvement. The location is great, close to town and far enough away to be peaceful. Staff was great.
Cons: The hotel needs to open a scuba diving shop.
Location: The location is a short taxi ride to town. Only minutes away from Chankanaab park. Very close to the best diving south of town.
This is the first time we have been back to the Fiesta since the remodel. The upgrades have significantly improved the resort. The newly remodeled rooms are nicely furnished. Although the bathrooms are a little small in the toilet area they make up for it with spacious walk-in showers sporting rainfall shower heads and completely new finishes. Interestingly the air conditioners are electronically with the doors; the air immediately turns on to compensation for outside temperatures (very cool). The open air lobby is open and inviting with guests immediately being greeted by welcoming staff. There are 4 restaurants (Italian, Japanese, Mexican, and the open air buffet). The food is a significant upgrade in each of the speciality restaurants, i would definitely consider it above average for an all inclusive resort in Cozumel. Staff was amazing, seeking to make each meal memorable. By day three the hostess at breakfast was greeting us by name. The primary purpose of our trip was scuba diving for the whole family. The only downside to the Fiesta is that there is no dive shop on the premises. However, we had made arrangements with a local dive shop to pick us up at the Fiesta's pier every morning. This worked fine as we would eat breakfast at the restaurant on the beach while watching for our dive boat. The only downside was having to transport, clean and store our dive equipment each day. Not a disaster, however, it would be more convenient with a dive shop.

The staff are very friendly. Clean place very relaxing and most of the staff speak English beach is small but nice and if you don't like crowds at the restaurants this is the best place and I have been to them all up and down the Mayan riviera and they don't compare

Family friendly-cozy resort.

Posted Mar 21, 2015
Pros: Casual, laid back atmosphere
Cons: More snorkel equipment, & better quality. The 1st couple days, whenever we checked, equipment was out. We finally got a set--it was broken.
Location: Plenty of tour options from resort. We did snorkeling on reef--boat picked us up at pier. We also did a jeep tour of the island leaving from resort.
Our family enjoyed the ocean beds & jumping off the dock. It was so relaxing. Also enjoyed the food. Breakfast & lunch buffet were average--plenty of variety with something for everyone. Dinners at specialty restaurants were very nice. We weren't sure what to order at Asian restaurant. Our waiter had some nice suggestions, including bringing us 7 kinds of sushi--creating a huge sampler platter so we could experiment. Staff was very attentive & friendly. Warning: great family place, very laid back. We loved it. If you want to party, this is not the resort for you.
