Older hotel,close to beach.

Posted Jan 21, 2015
Pros: Friendly staff, cleanliness.Ground beautiful.
Cons: Update the rooms, add to menu of restaurant. Add free Wi-Fi in rooms and breakfast buffet.
Location: Good location, but do have to take taxi to go into town, but it is walkable.Beach across the street, can take taxi or rent scooter/car to go around isle
This was the 4th stay for us at this hotel. That being said,it is showing it's age.No frills-which is fine, but would be nice to include price of breakfast and have free Wi-Fi in room instead of charging for them. Appreciate the on site restaurant, food was mostly good, but could bring back the breakfast buffet and the "omelet lady". Beach across the street from hotel with a walk over the street bridge. Pool, bar and hot tub on site appreciated.Friendly staff that have worked there for years that recognized use.Hotel staff were great, cleaning ladies were awesome, room was well cleaned and she would fold our towels into animals! Grounds are beautiful.Had to walk over to bar (not attached to hotel) to get ice, apparently ice machine in the hotel broke and not replaced. All in all this is an economy hotel,do not expect thrills. We were there for the beautiful island and the wonderful helpful people.

Always a Nice Experience

Posted Jan 6, 2015
Pros: It is located about 2 miles South of downtown which is ideal for getting to the beaches and going around the other side of the island.
Cons: The hotel should invest in updating bedding and towels for all rooms, not just the ocean view rooms. Wash clothes are hard to come by in the hotel.
Location: Visit the beaches on the south side of the island. Near the Park Royal shopping villiage and the National Park, Chakanub.
Our family has stayed at Casa del Mar 10-12 times over the past 15 years. We've tried other hotels in Cozumel, but find that Casa del Mar provides the best value in comparison to it's amenities. The hotel is modest, but has a friendly and trustworthy staff. The food and drinks are reasonably priced and we enjoy being able to order from a menu versus a buffet for lunch and dinner. Depending on hotel capacity, breakfast is buffet style with the option to have fresh eggs or omlette made to order at an outdoor grill under the palaba. There is a private beach connected to the hotel called Nochi Cocum. While the beach isn't great for snorkeling, it is great for swimming and water sports. The services is outstanding and you receive 20% off your bill if you are a Casa del Mar guest. The food is outstanding! It is our favorite beach on the island which is one of the reasons we stay at Casa del Mar--to have access to the beach.

Decent Hotel, Needs Makeover

Posted Jan 4, 2015
Pros: Restaurant, staff, pool
Cons: Dated furniture. Replace plastic pool and beach furniture for more sturdy and comfortable furniture.
Location: Location is close 10 minutes to the Caleta and about 15 minutes to the center of town.
The hotel provides all the amenities that one would require out of a dive vacation. The hotel decor is a little dated. However, the restaurant food is pretty good. If you are in it for diving then this is the place to be. If you're in it for a nice beach then this is not the place to be.

Great Value and Service

Posted Dec 30, 2014
Pros: The teak structural elements were quite seaworthy. Any call for hotel service and total cleanliness were superb. It was no problemo using English
Cons: More bottled water should be provided or a filtered tap. Then there's the disaster of the attached restaurant. We ate there once, y no mas
Location: Dive shop across the conveniently connected bridge provides very good boat dives and OK instruction
Hotel is pre-megaresort quintessential Maya-Mexican luxury and authentically unique instead of formulated program. Go with low expectations and be pleasantly surprised. Everything was very clean and cared for, but well used. Restaurant food was bad, service was worse. Hot tub was tepid but warmer than pool...both were in good condition except jets didn't work. Towels were very nice but seemed in short supply. There's nothing special there for young kids. There's adequate parking and rent a car + insurance to escape the restaurant...not many alternatives for eating within walking distance. Grounds were fantastically landscaped. Bed in our standard room was too firm for my taste and bedspread was twice past due for replacement. Picture on wall was a tad creepy but unique and some cultures may like uni-brow manly women. Air conditioning exceeded my expectations. I would go back without hesitation for diving, but it is distant from the lively downtown.
