    “Good bang for the buck”

A+ for great service, friendly staff, tons of room on the beach to spread out. I'd rate the food as adequate and much improved over our last stay 9 years ago. I was a little disappointed with the lack of shows (but I did travel in the off season) and the furnishings could use a little updating, but otherwise we had a great trip and won't hesitate to stay there again.

    “Fell Below Expectations”

This was our first time staying at the Melia Cozumel, and while we plan to returning to Cozumel, we wouldn't choose to stay at the Melia again. The friendly staff and convenient location are the hotel's main advantages. Other than that, there were several things we were disappointed by. We paid for a room upgrade and while our ocean view was great, our balcony looked directly into the hottub below us--no privacy or sound barrier either way. Our room was also terribly outdated and the bed was extremely uncomfortable. In terms of dining, your options are limited and the food is poor quality and unappetizing. We had a party of 14 people and by day 3 most people were sick of the food and the only one beer on draft you could order (no beer in bottles at all). Others in our party had stayed at different Melia properties and felt like this one was not up to par.

    “Average, but not 3.5 stars”

Excellent service, but nightly shows were not great, and snorkeling by the hotel was not possible. Good food and excellent service though, but rooms and hotel are a little run down.

    “Melia's amiga”

I've stayed at the Melia several times over the years. The staff is very friendly and offer personal attention to one's needs or concerns. The location is convenient to downtown and the airport. The resort has wonderful views of the beautiful Cozumel sunsets. The restaurants offer a wide selection of delicious meals. Luis, in charge of car rentals, is my Cozumel papa...testing my Spanish skills and being more than helpful with any needs or nesessary information. Any issue I may have experienced over the last ten years of staying at this resort have been addressed in a timely, friendly and positive manner. I and my friends love our stays at the Melia and plan to go back as soon as possible.

    Area recommendations
Downtown is a shopper's delight. Whether you're in the market for silver, pottery, vanilla or some tequila to bring back for friends or yourself. If time allows, try to explore the island...visiting the lighthouse. The view from the top is wonderful. Of course, finishing the day at Coconuts for a little refrehment is a must. But, don't wait too late to arrive. They close depending on the lenghth of daylight and once you arrive you WON'T WANT TO LEAVE. If you're there, give Luna a kiss for me!
    What to pack
Cozumel is a "whatever" environment. Shorts and teeshirts are always accepted. Of course, pack a good sunscreen and comfortable pair of flip-flops or sneakers. One sundress or pair of slacks might be nice in case you decide to dine at one of the 'nicer' restaurants. From December-February the nights can be a little breezy and there can be tropical showers, so a light sweater or jacket is good to have on hand.

“May have been nice in the late 80's”

If you are looking for a place to spend one night with no frills then this would work for the price. But it is absolutely not luxury. Service was not bad but was not great. No one really seemed happy to be there.... as if they were tired of serving tourist that do not tip. I don't blame them.... all inclusive should just be for the room, food and drinks. Customers should be more thoughtful and tip the servers as they would normally. This hotel is very average and the clientel is not desirable.

    “Relaxing and fun”

Hotel was very nice and staff was extremely helpful and gracious. My only complaint is that the food was usually just luke warm but there was plenty. We most certaiinly did not go hungry. Drinks were very good and strong and service was excellent. Will certainly go back.
