“great budget hotel”

I travel to Cozumel often (at least 6 times a year), I love staying downtown, close to my dive shop, resturants, etc. This is a great , clean, no frills place. The rooms are big, the kitchens are nice, all in all, a great value.

“Amazing Stay for the Price”

After staying here and seeing the rooms, I definitely would stay here over one of the all-inclusive resort hotels any day. The rooms were fastidiously cleaned every day, the staff helpful (though not all of them speak a lot of English) and the breakfast buffet was amazing and well worth the 1 block walk to get to it. For the price, I'm never staying in another hotel in Cozumel

“Would use this hotel every time!”

My first time in Cozumel, this hotel was amazing. We were able to get a room upgrade a great price. We had two balconies, one looking out to the bay with views down both sides of main street. Close to the dive shops, Centro was a few minutes walk, plenty of restaurants to choose from. Wash clothes are not provided, but can be easily be purchased at The Mega (Cozumel Walmart). Not a luxury all inclusive hotel by any means, so if that's what you are looking for look some where else. Would I recommend this hotel? 100%.

Area recommendations
Centro, its the hub. Lots of restaurants to choose from. Lots of shops down the main street. The ferry port is right there so it is constantly busy.
When to go
Definitely don't go around New Years. Not much happened for night life for New Years Eve. Lots of signs in restaurants stating they were having festivities, but it was pretty dead. No parties in Centro. Jan 1st is a holiday for the locals so almost all major restaurants were closed all around the island.
Getting around
Definitely rent a car or scooter to drive around the island. The east side of the island has free beaches and there are restaurants scattered along the road. Nice relaxing drive. Visit the ruins along the way.
Shopping
Prepared to be onslaughted by shop hands. Everyone has been waiting for you all day, and have 99% off. Most shops will bargain so don't be afraid to ask for a lower price.

“Good location. Love their breakfast!”

We enjoyed our stay at Suites Bahia because of its affordable price and location. We got the room with the oceanview, which has two big balconies. Breakfast was offered at Casa Mexicana during our visit. It had nice selections of food, eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, pastries, cereal, smoked salmon, lots of fruits, and juice etc. You can order them to make you an omelette or waffle too. The staffs are nice at both hotels. The hotel is very close to the Aldora Pier, which is the main pier for diving boats in downtown San Miguel. Since our room is close to the main street, it got loud from time to time but was not very bad. Some drawbacks for me were that the refrigerator was not working and they did not provide water in room, and oh no hairdryer too (important for a girl). Wifi signal in our room was not strong. My bf's laptop worked fine but my phone kept losing signal. We had the corner room on the fourth floor though. That was probably why.

Getting around
We took the cab to the restaurants and beach. It seemed like they added about $2-3 to the price they told us. Be sure to ask the hotel how much you should expect. We paid about $6 for the airport from downtown San Miguel. $11 to Playa San Francisco but $13 back since price was set at the beach.

“Cozumel's best kept secret”

Hotel Bahia is not an all inclusive resort, it is a charming hotel in the center of a charming town that allows the visitor to really interact with the Cozumeleños. It's close to many excellent restaurants, an ice cream parlor, coffee shop, and the town's central plaza that should not be missed on a Sunday night. The rooms are clean, if a little outdated, with a refrigerator, sink and microwave. Breakfast is served at the sister hotel, Casa Mexicana, a short walk away, and is delicious! The staff at Bahia are all friendly. There is a computer in the lobby with free internet access and a small library of books for the traveler who finished his book in the airport on the way down. I love the Bahia and will definitely be back!

“Love Suites Bahia!”

I loved this hotel- it was right by the water, literally steps away. There aren't any areas to lay out though, just some docks, but it's beautiful. You're steps away from one of the main streets where you can grab a taxi. The room was HUGE- there was a king AND a queen (listing just said king) and a great mini kitchen area with a fridge and microwave. The best thing was the A/C - thank goodness for the A/C, it never broke down on us during the 90% humidity and 90 degree heat. The front desk was always very helpful and helped us find great places to eat and how to get around. Everything was very clean. The breakfast included was also pretty good- fresh squeezed orange juice and grapefruit juice, an omelette/egg bar, fruit and bread. The neighborhood is pretty nice- next door is gelatto, an italian restaurant and... pizza hut. Most taxi drivers knew where Suites Bahia is and if not the front desk provided us with a map where we showed the driver. Really enjoyed our stay!

“Wonderful basic Cozumel Hotel”

When I'm diving in Cozumel I want to be in town and Hotel Bahia is on the waterfront across from the pier that my preferred dive operation uses (Aldora). Bahia has a balcony, 2 big beds (a king and queen) and a kitchen. Clean and with a very friendly and helpful staff.

Area recommendations
San Miguel is a small town and has some really good restaurants. The center of town might be a bit noisy.

“Perfect for me”

I'm a city kind of guy, so I liked being in town with plenty of things going on and, most important to me, more contact with locals. I travel lightly, don't require posh accommodations, and am uncomfortable with overly attentive staff hovering about. Suites Bahia met my needs perfectly. There was a moment of uncertainty about my reservation, but it was cleared up quickly. My room was on the third floor overlooking the street and waterfront. There's a dock across the street used by various dive operators. The ferry and plaza are about three blocks north. The only two oddities were no table for eating (even though there was a kitchenette) and you had to step into the shower in order to close the bathroom door. Oh, the water pressure was marginal and you had to be attentive flushing. The AC worked well and quietly. As is the case most places outside the US, the beds were very firm. I slept very well anyway. Unlike other places I've stayed on the island, wi-fi was totally FREE (though not that fast or powerful). Just get the login code at the desk.

Area recommendations
After you experience the touristy places along the waterfront and around the plaza, explore the streets further inland. The locals are friendly and safe. I found an excellent bakery with outside tables where I had breakfast. When an off-the-beaten-track restaurant recommended online was closed for the day, my cabbie took me to a small bar hidden in a courtyard where I had excellent pollo mole, mojitos bigger than my head, and played poker dice with fun and funny locals.
Dining
The restaurants around the plaza have menu-waiving waiters wrangling customers. It was off season, business was very light, so they were rather aggressive, but they will leave you alone if you politely decline and move on. I settled on Casa Denis just off the plaza because their menu was a little less touristy. The food was delicious and the service was warm and mellow. They even brought me insect repellent when the mosquitoes became annoying. One evening a fabulous guitarist set up across the way and serenaded us.
