Nice hotel for price, awesome staff
Posted Jan 10, 2013
Pros: Air hockey and pool. The staff was great and friendly.
Cons: Little things needed help. Screen for the room window or turn on AC sooner in season. The pool also wasn't filled but we chose an in between seasons
Location: Check out Sand Harbor Watersports, George was so accommodating. Bites is an American style tapas restaurant so worth the mini trip.
Everyone was super friendly and recommended sand harbor water sports for a great jet skiing adventure. The food at the restaurant was good and they had air hockey. This isn't your 5 star getaway but was a great visit. Just make sure you ask for a hotel room with a screen on the window because that room was roasting hot with no AC working. The weather went from cold to hot too quickly.

Cheap but ya get what ya pay for
Posted Jan 10, 2013
Pros: Not much
Cons: Air conditioning
Casino had barely any games, like less then 25. Room was hot a muggy, no air conditioning at all in any rooms. The hotel lobby has ac tho. The arcade was ok but some games did not work.

Probablt wouldn't return

It was 90+ degrees outside. The air conditioning was not turned on in the entire hotel and the pool was empty. Pretty uncomfortable both days. Nice view.

Good price for Lake Tahoe.
Posted Jan 3, 2013
This hotel is falling into a state of disrepair which is disappointing. But staff was amazing and the room and bed were actually comfortable. The Cal Neva site is spectacular - I would love to see a major renovation for this hotel. Perhaps this is what is planned?

Ghost of a resort past.
Posted Jan 3, 2013
Pros: Location and view
Cons: Exterior, lobby and "casino" conditions & upkeep.
Location: Beautiful location on peninsula on Crystal Bay at North end of Lake Tahoe.
Wonderful location and very good price... really disappointing condition of property. Resort has been allowed to deteriorate to the point where there's going to have to be a huge investment to keep from bulldozing it. Former Frank Sinatra owned resort seems to not have been renovated since Sinatra owned it. Rooms are clean and have been painted recently, plumbing functions well, but lobby and "casino" if you want to call it that are really a mess, exterior is a disaster, despite original beautiful landscaping and location. Staff seems motivated and apparently new owners have recently come on board, so perhaps renovations are on the drawing board... hopefully.

Good for the price but needs work
Posted Jan 25, 2013
Pros: View
Cons: Condition of. hotel
Location: Beautiful North Lake Tahoe
Our lake view was to die for. The beds were comfortabke, Overall the rooms and hotel need lots of work. Dresser handle hanging just needed a screw. Paint at bottom of bathroom door worn away. Paint needed around windows. Ceilings need work overall. Service was good.

Nice location but shabby hotel, horrible restaurant
Posted Jan 21, 2013
Pros: The view
Cons: Everything, especially the restaurant. Offering a complimentary buffet breakfast would be much better and easier for everyone.
The hotel is well situated, near the lake, and has nice lake view rooms. Other than that, it's old, shabby, but clean. I had a horrible experience with the staff, unfriendly and gloomy. The lobby is gloomy as well. And the restaurant is just awful. The breakfast is not complimentary and they took 40 minutes to serve me eggs that were not eatable. I never got the check, they took too much time to provide it (I had the time to go to my room and back, still nothing). Waitresses overall were not friendly, visibly very stressed out to be overwhelmed, passing on their stress to the helpless customers. Do not have breakfast there (plus it's expensive for disgusting food). This hotel is ok if you just sleep there, don't expect to enjoy anything else than the view.

Rooms and hotel run down, but clean. Only a few slot machines no table games. Resturant was good. Hotel is centrally located to Invline Village and Kings beach. I would stay here again.

Disappointed
Posted Jan 20, 2013
Pros: the front desk staff
Cons: Decor, accomadations, casino
Location: Luckinly there were casinos near by within walking distance....and the lake is within walking distance too
The only good thing was the front desk reps, Riley & "Jersey", who were so nice. Also the view from our 6th floor was very nice. Other than that, awful. No casino as of May 2013, there are a handful of slot machines, literally a handful, and they are either out of order or turned off at some point...who does that? Turns OFF slot machines in a CASINO? No bueno. Also, the gift shop is open upon request from the front desk, when they have time. No bueno. The suite was ok with the view and they do have cable....but they also had pieces missing from decor, screen halfway off the bedroom window, bathroom tub had nailpolish stains...or ?????, sliding door to sketchy balcony was very hard to open and close....I was so disappointed. I was expecting dated decor, wasn't expecting to feel like I needed to bathe in bleach after our stay...just dirty and gross and so disappointed!

Formerly Grand, now just decent
Posted Jan 14, 2013
Location: North Lake Tahoe is a beautiful place to visit. Quite laid back compared to South Lake, but still with a few casinos.
Looks like it was a grand place 40 years ago. Now it's just a decent hotel with signs of aging everywhere. (wall corners ripped, furniture in the room (french provincinal) with broken trim, electrial and or plumbing access doors in hallways with mis-matching facings, etc.). No casino, as advertised.
