Short break in Lyth Valley!Posted Aug 19, 2014
Pleasant enough stay. Staff do their jobs well enough but don't seem to make the extra effort to chat (maybe language / cultural issue?), except the lovely Jean on the reception desk on Monday and Tuesdays. She is a real stalwart, and it's always great to see her! Great spot but need a car due to its location. Food really good. Wifi very patchy and no (certainly not Orange) phone reception.

Very Nice Hotel, set in very nice Hotel GroundsPosted Aug 11, 2014
Pros: set in fantastic grounds, very family friendly, nice to sit outside on evenings. Food also very nice in Hotel
Location: Only a few minutes by car to other local shop\pub\restaurants. Only 15 minutes drive from Kendal, an ideal base for the Lakes.
Would highly recommend the Hotel, which accommodates for all ages, especially Families

Lovely hotel in a beautiful settingPosted Jul 3, 2014
Pros: Atmosphere, setting, staff, food - all top-notch
Cons: Some aspects of the hotel were a little tired (more outside than inside) - however this just added to the charming appeal!
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The setting is stunning. Food was delicious.

Pleasant hotel in lovely locationPosted May 27, 2014
Pros: Spacious room. Lovely location
Cons: Decor needs updating. Music in bar awful
Location: Bowness 10 mins away. Cartmel also close by
Good standard hotel in lovely quiet picturesque valley close to Bowness. Lovely gardens with duck pond and facilities for dog walking and to clean up after them, very thoughtful. Dogs welcome and had a huge family room. Wonderful massage and facial at value for money price. Friendly staff. Overall pretty good. Place just a bit tired in decor and in a time warp. Serious need for update to music in the bar. Old Lang syne in may!

Former private house, then youth hostel, then Methodist guest house, now upscale hotel with spa. Lovely location, good facilities, though our room was cramped. It was the subject of a TV reality show a few years ago and the wait staff seem to be still playing to the cameras. Would prefer genuine warmth rather than exaggerated manners. We were stung by the difference between the menu in the room and the reality of an expensive three course fixed price in the dining room. We discovered too late that we could not have what turned out to be the bar meal in the comfort of the dining room. Be sure to make an informed choice.

Very nice hotel and food with lovely view of duck pond. Very good staff. Lovely room with view of countryside. Had to go in public area for free wifi which. Was no problem. Lovely bed to sleep in but a little draught through the patio Windows. But in all the room was great and clean. Good location for those who want to visit the southern lakes like Windermere. Cartmel and ulverston. It's about a couple of miles from bowness so you will need a car to get there. They have a swimming pool spa and bar which we did not have time to use.

Needs a renovation and a new chefPosted Nov 14, 2013 on Hotels.com
The one positive thing was the friendly lady at the reception. Everything else was quite negative. Rooms are very old with plaster falling down, single glazing, in need of renovation urgently! The room we were given was next to a door which was banging constantly. Thankfully, we stayed for one night only. The worst thing was the food. The breakfast was of a very low standard and I couldn't even start to describe the evening meal. The amount we were charged for the evening meal was not justified by the food served. Never have I had something so awful served to me before. I can honestly say we wouldn't return or recommend this place.

good hotel a little out the wayPosted Oct 4, 2013
Pros: leisure facilities
Cons: repairs when reported should be fixed
Location: 10 mins away from Bowness which is nice with lots of places to eat, quiet countryside hotel, lots of walking nice pub at bowland bridge masons arms
we upgraded to a 4 poster bed/spa bath room for 2 of our 3 nights which was pricy but money well spent as the other room was much smaller, painting was going on when we was there so things will have been freshened up as 1 or 2 areas was starting to look a little worn. Staff was mostly very friendly with good leisure facilities which we enjoyed. Standard buffet cooked breakfast, very nice porridge and sausages (not together though)

Had to stay in cottage in carparkPosted Sep 9, 2013
Pros: Food was alright
Cons: Not putting guest up in the cottages
Hotel could be alright but they must have overbooked for our stay and we were put in a cottage in the car park which made it feel we were in a self catering apartment instead of a luxury hotel. Having to walk across the car park in all weathers for the hotel amenities is not good so make sure you are in the main building!
