Excellence in all areas

Fabulous place to stay, top notch but relaxed and unstuffy - service, food, wine, accommodation, gardens were all first class.

Lovely hotel

Posted Jun 19, 2015
Stayed here with my husband and two Children in their early 20s. We all loved it. We all had lovely rooms in the hotel. The dining was excellent. It's very close to Lake Windermere which was beautiful and Beatrix Potters house and garden was delightful as was the pub next Potters house. We will definitely stay here again.

Beautiful Gilpin's in the beautiful Lakes!

Posted Jun 10, 2015
Pros: All said above - there's nothing not to like!
Cons: Clone it in Bethesda, Maryland.
Location: Wish we'd had more time in the Lakes, but weather was sunny, cool, perfect for hours of trekking - Gilpin's is near the ferry, so easy access.
Gilpin's is as good as it gets - and we've seen a lot! Garden room huge, with thoughtful elegance, sink into incredibly comfortable bed and pillows, lovely view of verdant hills, everything works including hot tub, and spectacular privacy! Dining creative, starred in my view, staff attentive, mostly experienced and knowledgeable about facilities and region. There's no uh-oh's in this beautiful hotel - we're going back!!

Excellent 4 nights at the Gilpin Hotel

Posted Oct 12, 2014
Pros: See above - the accommodation, the food, and the staff. What's not to like?
Location: Located just outside of Windermere, it is well placed for exploring the Lake District.
We stayed midweek - Monday night through to Friday morning. The staff were excellent - friendly and helpful and the food was first class, with sensible choices of wines with each course. The room was very comfortable and the wifi worked well throughout the hotel (no O2 signal though, so mobile phone calls were not possible, thankfully). The location is well placed for exploring the area - we shall definitely go back there when we are next in the Lake District.

Fantastic friendly family run hotel

Posted Sep 6, 2014
Pros: Everything !!
Cons: The mobile coverage is none exsistant , which is not the hotels fault, but this effects the GPS , so don't rely on it .
Location: Wonderful walks
Had a wonderful 3 day stay, from the moment we arrived and greeted on the drive we felt relaxed and welcome. The whole hotel is beautifully decorated through out with great country house charm. The lounge and bar are particularly cosy and comfortable. Our bedroom was delightful , looking out to a terrace that overlooked the croquet lawn and the lamas ! It had a very comfortable lounge area and a well appointed bathroom with spa bath and very luxurious bath products. The bed probably on of the best beds I have ever encountered in a hotel. Food was fantastic and so nice to have breakfast served instead of buffet. But having said all of this the most impressive part of the hotel are the staff and the management, nothing is too much trouble. Will defiantly return

Luxury and fine dining in a beautiful setting for

Posted Apr 22, 2014
Pros: Food, accomodation, the lovely lounge and bar.
Cons: nothing
Location: near Windemere and easy to get across on the ferry to the other side of the lake.
We had a wonderful stay, from the massage down at the lake house to the wonderful meals and sumptuous accomodation, it was aperfect weekend treat. I have been coming to the Lake District for years and this is finally a gourmet experience to match the fresh air and stunning scenery. We loved it and will be back!
