“Small and cosy.”
Holly Lodge is a traditional terraced lakeland stone house. Diane, whose first season was 2011, has tastefully renovated it. Thick carpets, warm radiators (take note, winter visitors!) and newly fitted en-suite made my stay very comfortable. Wifi kept me in touch, but I had to listen to the radio on the flatscreen TV in my room, as normal radio reception in the Lake District is patchy, thanks to the mountains blocking the signals. Breakfast was in a comfortable dining room with tall backed upholstered chairs. To my delight, the choices included black pudding - a rarity in hotels. Holly Lodge is on a quiet side road in Windermere, avoiding traffic noise, but still only a short stroll from the shops, restaurants and pubs. The lake is a mile and a quarter down the hill. There is a bus, but the walk is pleasant.
“Fantastic hospitality, lovely location!”
I enjoyed staying at Holly lodge even though I only stayed for one night. The room was beautiful and looked exactly as it did on the professional photos. It was within 5 mins stroll of some lovely resteraunts and about 10mins slow walk up to lake windermere. The location was just perfect as it wasnt too noisy at night. Seems to be a great place to stay for both couples and families. I was especially impressed by the breakfast and would have to say its the best breakfast ive had staying at a hote or bed and breakfast. I would definitely recommend the salmon and scrambled eggs and my partner had a full english which included black pudding. The owner Diane was extremely helpful. We had a slight issue with the door not closing properly, however she got this fixed within the hour while we went for a walk which was fantastic service. I would definitely recommend Holly lodge for its great location, clean and modern accommodation and extremely hospitable owner. Thanks again for a great stay :)
“Pleasant experience”
Excellent location, quiet and friendly staff. Highly recommend.
“Cosy Victorian Traditional Lakeland House in the Centre of Windermere Town”
Diane's first season at Holly Lodge was 2011 and she has tastefully renovated it. The front gate is flanked by pretty holly bushes leading to a gabled porch. This is a traditional Lakeland home, which means narrow stairways (beautifully carpeted) and cosy rooms. My comfortable single room (no supplement to pay!) had an en-suite with a large shower, a short wardrobe & drawers, an armchair, a flat TV, a radio with ipod charger, a touch-on bedside lamp and tea/coffee equipment. The powerful radiator saw off the February chill outside and I was very comfortable. College Road runs parallel to Windermere High Street and gets little passing traffic - nice and quiet, but close to restaurants and pubs. It is handy for bus services to Keswick and Ambleside and trains to the rest of England. It's a short walk to the Parish Church of St Mary's. The lake shore is a mile and a quarter downhill (turn right out the door and keep going or take the bus). One small caveat: if you have a vehicle larger than a normal family saloon, you might want to park it on the street out front rather than in Holly Lodge Car Park, which has a narrow entrance drive.
“Lake District”
The room we had in this Guest House was at the top of a narrow flight of stairs, which made it very difficult to carry any suitcases to the room. I think there are better quality Guest House in the Lake District to choose from.
