Fantastic experience. Location is exceptional with great views over the lake and a great overall base to explore Windermere and surrounds. The rooms are tastefully designed and fully-equipped with everything you'd expect of a top hotel. A special thanks to the gentleman (I believe it's Thomas?) for being very accommodating in finding us room at the restaurant despite not booking in advance and generally making us feel very welcome throughout our short but enjoyable stay.

My first time at the Lake District and at Wheatlands Lodge, it won't be our last, we will be back.
Richard & Yvonne really looked after us, loved the full breakfast! Luckily we walked everywhere.
Even before we arrived, R&Y had emailed us to informed us that the road in front of the B&B was being tarmac. They sent us alternative parking information and even offered to pay us back for any parking charges.
Windermere is reasonably busy but Bowness, just a 20 minutes walk, is really busy and offered lots of different things to do and eat.
If you go by train, Windermere station is only 5/10 mins away and within easy walking distance.

Took my wife for our 35th wedding anniversary, upon arrival we were greeted with tea, coffee & biscuits, local restaurants were recommended and Denise the owner made a reservation for us that evening. Our room had a four poster bed and each day had fresh clean towels and his and hers dressing gowns laid out. The breakfast menu catered for all tastes including vegetarian and was all home cooked. I would definately give it a 5 star rating and look forward to staying there again.

We first stayed here in 1989 and stayed numerous times in the 1990's, in 2001, 2002 and the last time in 2004. It had lost it's edge a little for us in the transition from a privately run and owned hotel to part of a chain (Von Essen). Recent developments, a new owner, and good reviews tempted us back and we were not disappointed! It isn't the same as in the days of Francis and Brian - it never could be - but it is still a unique experience. The position on Ullswater couldn't be better (I'd go for the views alone!), the staff were helpful and friendly, the food was exceptional without following fashion. Sharrow Bay always did things it's own way and that was what made it special. The décor and furnishings suit the house and location superbly and I'm pleased to see the Hotel still dares to be different in that respect. We won't leave it as long before our next visit. It is still Simply the Best!
