The hotel, gardens and location were superb, as was the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. The reason that this was not a 5 star review was due to the fact that the evening meal was both average and expensive - as were the bar prices. £22 for a glass of Rose and a rum and coke are central London prices, which was disappointing. The breakfast was fine.
We booked because the listing indicates EV Chargers available, when we got there the chargers had not been ‘wired in’ according to the receptionist. This was disappointing. The lounge was comfortable and we ate in there. Joseph was attentive to our needs, friendly and gave us some really fab recommendations for the area. For the property itself, generally we would say the lounge furniture needs upholstering and a degree of modernisation throughout the public areas would really lift the place. Comfortable bedroom, quiet location.
Amazing short trip away. Beautiful surroundings, excellent food, attentive staff. Warm and tidy room, bathroom a little tired but clean and functional. Was asked on check out for feedback only thing to add was wi fi would have been useful to help plan activities. Overall a fabulous individual hotel steeped in history on the edge of Ullswater.

We found the property needing update and was very highly priced for what it is. The wonderful view is acknowledged. Our room was noisy with a hot water boiler filling up and waking us on three occasions during the night. The receptionist was not helpful. Food was good especially the breakfast but costly. Most staff helpful but reception not welcoming.
Beautiful hotel and the staff were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble.
There were some parts of the room that the cleaners forgot such as cleaning under the glass on the bedside table which looked grubby.
Food, other than breakfast, was poor and overly expensive.
Exceeded expectations, staff were friendly and hospitable and were in high spirits which was what you needed for a time out in the Lake District.
The inside place I could describe was classic, posh and extravagant. It felt a bit like the White House inside.
The view from the breakfast hall took me away. The window side had a clear view of the mountain.
The lawn was well cut and maintained.
Would love to go there again.
Poor service throughout stay. Hotel decor is tired and dated and generally in poor state requiring a face-lift. Rooms and food overpriced (e.g. £29 for avocado and eggs for breakfast).
Everything at the Macdonald Leeming House was amazing. The service, the view, the room, the food...it was perfect! The staff was so kind and helpful, especially Debbie, Jeff, Monika and Giacomo. We really miss them! We highly recommend for anyone looking for a great place to unwind or looking to hike the Lake District.
We got married here 2 years ago and returned for my husbands 40th birthday. The rooms are lovely the views are amazing and the breakfast was very good. The room could of however been cleaner and the staff were all new and unsure of what they were doing but its still early in the season, so im sure they will pick it up

Restaurant incredibly overpriced. Didn’t enjoy the ground floor room, lack of privacy if you wanted any daylight. Furnishings very dated. Lovely location and friendly staff.
Views are amazing, everything else is distinctively average at best. Nowhere near worth the price they charge per night. I would also make sure you get breakfast included with the room or you'll be stung £24 for a rather small 'Full English'.

Good afternoon Roger, I am sorry to hear you found glass in your room. This of course is not our normal standard. I have spoken with the staff on shift and a member of our team checked for more glass in the room but of course, it should have been re hoovered to begin with. Raul our night porter is always happy to help I will pass on your kind comments about him.

It was very over priced for what was on offer. Breakfast was poor and £5 excess charge for crushed avocado on toast unjustified.
The hotel is tired and dated and in need of a refurbishment. Bar food very expensive and poor. Alcohol very expensive and although we were on b&b basis there was a £5 supplement for kippers haddock advocadot if you wanted any of tyese instead of a traditional english breakfast
property in beautiful gardens with stunning views however, rooms very tired. Restaurant extremely overpriced, £35 for one course, £50 for 2 courses with additional supplements on many of the items on the menus even at breakfast which is supposed to be included. Full English breakfast consisted of HALF a mushroom and HALF a piece of black pudding. Very stingy for price you pay. Had issue with burst water tank one morning so we had a notice saying we may not be able to use water and there was no tea or coffee serviced with breakfast. Will not be returning.
Amazing hotel with views to die for!! We had a balcony with a view and was worth paying for the bigger room. We did opt for a room with a king size bed but got a room with 2 singles put together so was abit disappointing but the view made up for it!! Dog friendly hotel so lots of lovely pooches about. Breakfast was amazing!!! Dry friendly and helpful staff! Lots of choice and again amazing views!!!
Appalling trip - misrepresentation on the website, check-in time is 4pm and not 3pm, felt it was a scam to get you to spend money on drinks and afternoon tea. Reception Staff Rude and unhelpful. Restaurant prices unbelievably high, paid half the price at an Edinburgh's Royal Mile Michellin Star Restaurant for same size/course meal. Kept awake till 4am by neighbouring guests repeatedly slamming doors, shouting and singing. Found a flea on the duvet - we don't have pets. We were given a reduction for the upgraded room which didn't meet the specification on-line and a reduction of the 'service charge' which we have no idea what this was for.
Wonderful stay once again. Beautiful room, set up perfectly with garden access for the dog.
Very festively decorated with trees and garlands, roaring fires perfect to relax next to.
Dinner and breakfast hot, tasty and well served. See you all again in the new year!
Friendly greeting on arrival, beautiful traditional hotel with a grand feel. Despite the late booking by ourselves we were congratulated on arrival (our honeymoon), had extra special touches in the room and complimentary drinks before dinner. Evening meal was superb, great waiting staff with a fantastic atmosphere.
Cannot wait to return in the very near future.
The grounds and location were beautiful however the food was very average and over priced for what it was. Breakfast was very disappointing with many dishes incurring extra costs. The room was a nice size but the walls were damp with paint coming off, the cups offered for tea and coffee were dirty, to charge the fees they do the whole place needs a revamp and the kitchen needs to use better quality produce. They have extensive gardens why not use them. Overall there are far better alternatives in the area.
Beautiful setting with fantastic view of Ullswater. Nice suite, with updated bath/ shower but overall interior of hotel is tired. Bar menu very limited - good breakfast. Staff polite and helpful but think they were shortstaffed
