A memorable weekend in the lakeland fells.Posted Oct 14, 2014 on Hotels
If you are used to living in the lap of luxury forget The Royal Oak. However for a weekend of walking/relaxing in beautiul surroundings and experiencing wholesome food and pleasant conversation(no Tv in the rooms) it is ideal. Location, comfort, service and atmosphere suited me to the ground during my dedicated walking weekend.

Familiäres Hotel im Lake DistrictPosted Aug 31, 2014
Location: Ausflüge, Wanderungen im Seengebiet.
Sehr freundliches Personal. Schöner Speiseraum und zwei Kleine Kaminzimmer in denen der Tee/Kaffee nach dem Essen serviert wurde. Eine gute Möglichkeit mit den anderen Gästen zu kommunizieren.

perfect location for hill walkingPosted Jul 26, 2012 on Hotels
the hotels location was beautiful perfect for those who wish to climb scafell pike etc Our room was very nice ,comfy bed ,old fashioned and homely. The aussie girl who greeted us was brilliant very helpful indeed however the actual owners of the hotel werent quite so friendly. My only complaint about this hotel would be the food ,wepaid for the evening meal on the first night , it was ok taste wise however the portions were so small that we were left hungry after a 3 course meal .As we planned to do a massive walk the next day we asked for our money back on the second nights meal ,the owner wasnt too happy about it ! we had our next dinner in the pub next door which was great.Borrowdale is stunning ,Scafell pike is a must if you get good weather

Ticked all the boxesPosted Jul 7, 2011 on Hotels
we picked the Royal Oak as we were looking for a base near Keswick. We arrived mid afternoon, shown to our room and was given a map went out for a walk. Our room was clean and comfortable, it had no tv which was a real treat as we spent each evening with the other guests in the lounge discussing their days, they were all very nice and welcomed us like old friends (some of the guests have been regular visitors for over 40years!). There is a TV room across the courtyard behind the hotel but we didn't need it. The evening meal was served at 7pm and all home made to a very high standard and included soup, lamb with fresh veg (leek, mash and peas) then apple crumble. The bar prices were reasonable. We will definitely be going back for another visit and will be encouraging our friends and family to do the same.
