Nice hotel, bad room

Posted Aug 23, 2014
The hotel is nice with great views but unfortunately our room was right next to the bar, the restaurant and opposite the office meaning it was noisy. Moreover, the hotel alarm system outside the office went off at 3am and I had to turn it off as there were no staff members to deal with it. The lack of staff was also felt at checkout as we had to go to the restaurant to find a staff member to check us out. Otherwise it's a really lovely hotel and I do recommend it!

A Quiet Retreat

Posted Aug 3, 2014
Pros: Quiet setting. Very good food and extremely comfortable bed. Very helpful staff. Parking in the grounds.
Location: Peaceful surroundings. Steam railway, walks, lake cruises, good tourist shopping centres nearby. Fabulous countryside.
This rural and graceful hotel proved to be exactly what we were looking for. Very quiet, virtually no traffic, close to several beautiful locations and importantly easy to find with good parking in the grounds. Very well-appointed establishment with extremely helpful staff, which made for a very relaxed and comfortable stay. Comfortable bed and an excellent en-suite. Although we had other plans for evening dinner each day, we did enjoy the huge selection on offer for breakfast. Would certainly recommend this hotel to those looking for peace and comfort in a fabulous area of the Lakes.

Lovely views

Posted Jul 30, 2014
Cons: The bed was too firm for our liking
Location: Right next to Beatrix Potter's Hilltop
Albeit we stayed during a heatwave, but to relax on the terrace overlooking the lake, while the swallows swooped over the lawn, with a drink in hand (us not the swallows) was a delightful experience. This charming hotel is in the heart of the small village of Near Sawrey and right next to the National Trust "Hilltop" ticket office. We left our hotel room and within 3 minutes we had a timed ticket to visit the famous Beatrix Potter house. The hotel was clean and well appointed, although our room (no 2) was on the small side. It was an online booking and therefore good value, with breakfast included. The breakfast room also overlooks the lake and served a very good breakfast, whatever your taste. The staff were helpful and friendly. We didn't eat in the restaurant, partly because there was an excellent and cheaper alternative nearby, but note that there are precious few places to eat an evening meal in the vicinity.

Lovely location

Posted Jun 15, 2014
Pros: The location of it.
Cons: The service was very slow. And on checking out we weren't asked if we had enjoyed the visit
Location: Apart from hill top a car was essential to get around. Lovely area though
Booked on line with Expedia we booked a four poster room. It didn't say it was an attic room. Was spacious but dark. The spa bath was under the only window in the room. Had dinner on both nights 2 very contrasting meals. The first night exceptional, the second very mediocre . We both has chicken breast and leg on second night, the leg was no bigger than my thumb and the breast was gone in two mouthfuls and it was barely warm

Fantastic hotel for anyone visiting the lakes

Posted Apr 22, 2014 on Hotels.com
Wow!! 10/10 having returned from an Easter trip to the lakes this hotel was perfect the location was brilliant for anyone wanting to walk or use for a good base to explore the Lake District, with a car ferry to windamire just round the corner. the staff were very helpful and friendly. We would highly recommend eating in the hotels restaurant (not the cheapest but well worth the money) and the views from the lake view rooms and resturant are fantastic! We had a perfect romantic trip and will be returning to this hotel later in the year.

A great getaway

The hotel was nicely presented, with good quality, clean rooms. Great location for a peaceful part of the lakes yet not far from the local towns (Windermere via ferry). Personal highlight was the breakfast, fantastic selection and cooked to perfection.

Easter Bank holiday visit

Posted Apr 22, 2014 on Hotels.com
The location and far reaching views are breathtaking here! The highlight certainly being enjoying a cold drink sat on the elevated terrace looking down on Esthwaite Water! A real sun trap if you catch the good weather. My only criticism is the bedroom was a little basic. Very large comfortable bed, but no bath. The breakfast was superb and the staff very friendly and made the stay personal as there are only 10ish rooms. Would certainly go back...

Just an overnight stay. Everything was satisfactory, but the breakfast was really amazing.
