Good for an overnight stayPosted Sep 9, 2013
Pros: It was just as we expected. Quiet and comfortable. Plenty of parking right outside. Staff were friendly.
Location: Handy for the Lake District
This inn was good for an overnight stay after a day's walking in the Lake District. Comfortable room, decent pub meal for dinner and fine breakfast. Quiet location - worth the short journey away from the motorway.

Good MenuPosted Jun 11, 2013 on Hotels.com
The accommodation was of a high standard with the spa bath much appreciated. The best was the quality of the food, in particular the slow cooked meats. The service was good and extremely friendly providing a family pub atmosphere.

Great hotel near CarlislePosted Mar 24, 2013
Pros: The food and service were impeccable.
Location: Central location for easy access to Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall.
Great Hotel with a friendly and professional staff. The food was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. Dining is available for two hours in the morning (730-930) and the pub opens at 6pm with food availble at 630pm. The selection was also very good, even for children. Breakfast is free, both hot and cold. The double and family rooms were both spacious and comfortable. The 20 GBP ride to the Carlisle train station only took 20-30 minutes depending on the road conditions (we had a few snow/rain days). It's also ~20 miles to the central museums along Hadrian's wall, which made it accessible even during the off peak tourist season. It also was a good location for a day trip to Edinburgh. There is plenty of parking in front of the inn, although we used taxis. Overall, I'd highly recommend this place to anyone traveling in the area and I'd dine here even if I wasn't staying the night.

Definitely recommendedPosted Nov 28, 2012
Arrived late, staff couldn't have been more attentive and helpful and even rustled up a meal for us though the kitchen had closed. Nice beer, log fire in the bar, friendly locals, clean warm room, lovely food (inc excellent breakfast) - not sure if we could have expected much more - highly recommended.

Great for travelling couplesPosted Sep 22, 2012
Pros: Good bed, good food, good friendly service
Cons: I was lucky to have a spa bath but because of my age I would have preferred a shower.
Lovely old hotel with comfortable beds good food and good service would definitely stay again

Business stayPosted Aug 5, 2012 on Hotels.com
Thought the hotel looked very nice and was very clean. stayed mid week so expected a nice quiet stay but was unfortunate that a party of foreign old couples where staying at the same time??? also bathroom needing a shower cubicle or needing shower wall fitted equipment as you have to hold it whilst having one ???? otherwise a pleasant stay....

Hotel staff were excellent as was the food although the menu for children is quite limited. The family room was large enough but was a little bit tired and a bit on the grubby side - particularly the carpets. The temperature of the shower was impossible to regulate. Unfortunately the walls turned out to be a little bit on the thin side but I am sure the couple in the room adjacent will be scoring their stay very highly indeed!!

Stay againPosted Jun 26, 2012 on Hotels.com
Booked for a weekend get-away and would certainly stay again. Nice village location, within easy distance of Carlisle. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Food good & drinks very reasonably priced.
Convenient for Hadrian's WallPosted Jun 22, 2012 on Hotels.com
Generally did not live up to the good reviews on your site. The mattress was very uncomfortable with lumpy springing, which meant two nights disturbed sleep. The evening meals too were disappointing-rather too many over spiced dishes on the menu. On the plus side, the staff were polite and friendly and the beer was good.
