What a location! Besutoful view of the valley and mountains from the room, dining room and swimming pool. Great shower pressure and wifi and the hot tub was great after hiking. The pool was cold but that would be amazing in summer. Friendly staff.

This is probably the best hotel I've ever stayed in due to the exceptional surroundings!! Staff was friendly, breakfast and restaurant were good, and staff was very friendly and helpful.

The views are stunning
The views are absolutely outstanding!!! The room was really nice and we had a big terrasse from where we could enjoy the views later at night. The restaurant was ok. I would recommend this hotel if you plan on going hiking around or if your priority is the view. Otherwise, if you goo for the pool or the spa, I would not recommend it. The pool was too cold to enjoy, the jacuzzi was too small and also way too cold. The sauna was not hot. On our side we didn't mind because the views were more than enough to compensate and we were there mainly for that and the hike.

The drive to the hotel was lengthy with very windy turns and small lanes, however the view from the hotel and from our room was spectacular. Some of the staff were so lovely to us but there were a few that were quite rude and blunt when we said a passing hello or had a query. The electronic equipment in the gym didn’t work and a member of staff (who was very lovely) only came to charge the equipment on the 5th day of our stay which was a shame. There were also no weights available either. The rooms were very clean and the cleaning staff were helpful and nice. We absolutely loved the buffet breakfast and the pool/spa area. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would return here.

We had a wonderful stay up in the mountains at this hotel. The staff was friendly and the room was great with a great view of the mountains right from the balcony. We enjoyed breakfast in the morning with a gorgeous view of the mountains and valley and the pool and hot tub after day of exploring downtown Madeira and an afternoon of hiking in the mountains.

Dissapointing stay.
Hotel is located in absolutely stunning location. It has quite nice looking and fairly modern rooms with amazing views (if the windows were clean)but that's about it unfortunately. Staff is grumpy and not too happy to help. Doors to the rooms have no amortisation therefore every time the door is being shut it wakes you up. Walls are thin too, therefore if you get loud neighbours (neighbours in this case means 5 rooms on either side of yours and opposite) you might struggle to get a night sleep too. One plug in the room and that's close to the bathroom, not to the bed. Breakfast was of really poor choice and quality. Horribly tasting coffe but you are more than welcome to have a probably tastier one if you pay but we chose not to, out of principle. SPA was never seen as opening hours are for people who live in hotel, not for active ones. 10am till 6pm is a little bit of a joke?

Nice hotel in the mountains
We have a lot of activities and arrived late like 1800. SPA closed early, very bad, shops near closed. Bad resturant, don´t eat tuna.

Great hotel
Amazing view, clean and quiet room (except saturdays when usually are weddings), good parking, good food. Beds and pillows very confortable, always heat and hot water. SPA is not very good, only a cold pool and a jacuzzi. Sauna didn't work. No bath robe in rooms, no towels for pool, safe with extra cost. But we didn't came for SPA so it was a great choice.

One of the best hotel experiences of my life! The view was even nicer than the photos, and access to hikes right outside the door. Very good service and friendly staff, good breakfast, vegetarian options in the restaurant and very good Portuguese red wine. I also used the gym on the lower floor, and it was great to work out with the view of the mountains. Great value for the price, and highly recommended!

Astounding location
Ive stayed here before on more than one occasion. The location, apart form the many bus tours arriving to take in the view, is astounding sitting wedged in a cleft between a high peak and a look out. The exterior of the building is not particular pleasing but the interior defies that assessment having a big dining room with astounding views and rooms which all have views and balconies overlooking the valley floor 400 odd meters below. The staff is excellent at everything they do.

The view was amazing ,the balcony to our room gave a stunning view of the valley of the nuns,breakfast was from an enormous buffet that set us up for the day

Fantastic location although there is limited scope for walking other than down to the village. Everything well maintained and clean. Spa and pool not really operational - pool cold. As noted by others, breakfast is a disappointment. Nasty coffee from machine. 'Hot' options stone cold even at 8am when it opened.

It is a hotel we will dream of coming back to
Our stay at this mountain-top retreat was amazing. The pictures of the website do not do justice. The pool was the best in the world with breath-taking panoramas. The doors from the pool open into a balcony. Each of the rooms in this boutique hotel have the views, so does the restaurant. I liked the location because it was not too hot in the afternoons. Right from the hotel there is a hiking trail into the village in the valley. It is one tough trail. There is a short trail from the hotel to the viewpoint above the hotel. Our room was actually comfortable despite 4 people staying in it. Breakfast was very nice as well.

Very Good service - kind gentleman at reception who helped me and the young server at the restaurant was so nice , he even brought the food to our room when my wife was not well ! Fantastic view when it was sunny . Unfortunately , we were foggied out on day !

The location is fantastic, but for a hotel so upsides from everything it should have more things to do, the pool should not close by 7.00pm and the Billard table should be free of charge and not 5 Euro per hour

The height of (not quite) luxury
A three night stay at the Eira do Serrado during a month visiting Madeira. Good reception, large room with fabulous views and a restaurant offering an extensive menu and huge portions. Our third time here over the years and still the only down side is the number of functions and coach parties which create a good deal of noise and detract from the potential atmosphere - but not enough to stop us going back again sometime.

Amazing views set high up in a mountain valley
After visiting lots of hotels around the coast line we thought we'd try an inland one. Wow breathtaking views from room , restaurant and swimming pool. Highly recommend this in every way.

This is a beautiful, clean, well maintained hotel in an excellent location But, service was a bit poor, breakfast was poor & sparse, had to pay €5 each per person for 'swim cap' ( compulsory ) €5 for game of pool, €5 for sauna & additional € 5 per person for steam room, also rooms were very cold

Here for two nights high up in the mountains in Madeira. The rooms are basic,no fridge in our room.fabulous view looking onto the mountains and down into the Nuns Valley. Lovely restaurant,all the staff are very pleasant. Good cooked breakfast,lots to eat.watch the coffee machine,sometimes needs help. Swimming pool etc looks onto the cliff and mountains you could not get anything better .You have to pay 5euros for the most ridiculous swimming hat, but you can always keep it as a sovereign - caused such a laugh to put it on. You have to pay extra for the sauna and steam room so ask before you book to make sure you get the right package. Thus is all new and we just loved it.we gave been a few times, not with swimming pool.walk down to the village takes about 1 hour 30 min if you wear good footwear, same back but pick up a long stick it will help you as it is very steep.up in the mountain you can be in clouds for quite awhile.

Great hotel, amazing views from rooms. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Can't fault anything. We were lucky with the weather so views stunning. A bit remote, but you know that if you're booking this hotel. A new road opened December 2014 (not shown on maps but just before road from hotel joins VE7) gives a great drive to Pico Do Arieiro and stunning walks from there.

Fantastic view, really lovely people
This hotel is a real gem. The view from the rooms and restaurant is amazing. We couldn't get enough of it. The staff are very friendly and helpful and work tremendously hard. We have stayed here several times before and enjoyed each time. Most times we have hired a car as the journey is all uphill from Funchal (about 20 minutes). We have actually walked downhill into Funchal (takes about 3 hours) and used the bus service for a different type of holiday. The building of an indoor swimming pool and gym is coming on and will be ready soon. Do not be put off if there is a wedding function on at the hotel when you visit. The staff still give you the same attention and the food is no less inviting nor slower than normal. The staff do everything they can to make you feel welcome. We will revisit again!
