I'd go backPosted Feb 26, 2014
Thick, plastered adobe walls with hand-wrought wooden balconies, stairs and railings make this hotel reminiscent of something you'd find in the Anerican Southwest. Staff was excellent at all times. Breakfast was great. The room was fairly large with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was so-so and the shower/hot water situation was marginal. Toilets worked fine but hot water was iffy and once the water just...went away...while I was showering, and didn't return for a few hours. However, I'd go back in a heartbeat.

Great ExperiencePosted Jan 7, 2014
Pros: Staff, view, breakfast buffet, architecture
Cons: Wifi connection
Location: It is central to the plaza de armas and great food and nightlife
I rarely review places but this one really deserves a proper review. The staff (from the front desk attendents to the culinary staff) went out of their way to make sure all customers were attended too. It was really nice to see the detail that they provided to each customer. The rooms were so unique, I really value architecture and thought they place had plenty of it and still keeping true to the character and culture of Cusco. I really liked the view from the morning sunrise to the lights of the city at night. The breakfast buffet was the best buffet I've had in awhile. Hot dogs and eggs for breakfast on vacation? yes please! The only downside is that you do have to walk a little but honestly it is well worth it and plus you get in a little excercise walking up the hill to the hotel. Also the wifi was really weak in our room but the lounge/buffet area has a strong connection. The hotel manager even gave us a courtesy ride to the airport at the end of our stay. I would definitely book with them again if I find myself in the city of Cusco.

Good location, great valuePosted Jan 5, 2014
A bit of an uphill climb from Plaza d'Armas, but was a nice location, very central. Good value, friendly staff. Would recommend for sure. When we were staying, very few other guests, so cannot comment on noise. Breakfast was included which was nice.

Lots of quality for its level of lodging.Posted Aug 12, 2013 on Hotels.com
I lIked El Balcon. The staff is extremely helpful and was able to navigate my limited Spanglish with proficiency. They are right near Plaza de Armas with a low cost. The breakfast is incredible, with a ready supply of coca tea for the altitude adjustment. They helped a lot with my trip and stay needs. The only complaint was the room was a little chilly in the winter (July), but otherwise the experience was great. Would readily go back

A Cusco GemPosted Jun 5, 2013
Pros: Friendly staff, lots of character, unlimited coco tea, great included breakfast, clean, comfortable and convenient
Cons: The water temp is a little tricky to control in the showers. Ok, once you get the hang of it.
Location: Close walk to Plaza de Armas, great restaurants around the corner, safe and clean neighborhood, be prepared for uphill steps to get to the entrance.
We were pleasantly surprised by this charming place. We were treated like family upon arrival. The staff there was very helpful in organizing taxis, planning guided excursions and giving good direction for us to go out on our own. The owners are around often and set the tone of El Balcon with their family style approach. We stayed here before and after our Inca Trail Trek so it became our home base while in Cusco. Its close proximity to Plaza de Armas is very convenient with great views of downtown Cusco right from our balcony. If we have the pleasure of visiting Cusco again, we would definitely stay at El Balcon!

El Balcon Review May 2013Posted May 31, 2013
The only saving grace was the woman who ran the kitchen. She was genuinely happy and willing to assist. The phone in our room did not work and no effort was made to correct the situation by the front desk staff. Additionally, the heater did not work and was met with the same outcome as the telephone issue.............no correction. It did meet our needs, a place to sleep. Do not stay at if you love the conviences of the USA!

Good place to stay for a Cuzco holidayPosted Dec 3, 2012
Pros: Nice staff
Cons: Getting a bit tired
Location: On a quiet street, yet close to the central square
Good budget accommodation in Cuzco, a short walk from the main square. Good breakfast. heater in the room, wifi, and hot water. An excellent on-site travel agency to make local arrangements.

Cozy, modest, beautiful viewPosted Nov 16, 2011
Staff extremely kind, breathtaking view of Cusco and surrounding mountains at sunrise. Great combination of price and comfort. Better isolation of room doors and windows might not cost much and wood greatly improve comfort. It can get a bit cold, but I would definitely come back!
