Lots of potential but hotel needs a lot of work.

Posted Feb 11, 2015
Hotel is beautiful but is in need of a major room rennovation. Rooms are very dated. Lobby and common areas are beautiful but were dusty. Ceiling in the bathroom was peeling. Beds were very uncomfortable. Prices for parking was ridiculous. $90 for three night. It was more than the cost of our rental car.

Nice old hotel

Cons: Update more rooms and update the mattresses as well.
We stayed at the hotel for one night. I loved the old look of the hotel. I wish we got to stay in the one of the renovated rooms because our room had an old mattress that looked a little nasty. But the entire staff at the hotel was absolutely amazing. I have never had anyone be that helpful and that polite in all my hotel stays.

The hotel is very nice and classic looking. The rooms are huge. They do have signs up that they are going to modernize the rooms this year.

Location: Being near the convention center was a big plus.
The staff were very helpful and the courtesy transportation made it a very pleasant stay.

Good location, limited amenities, no free wifi?

Posted Feb 3, 2015
Hotel is pleasant enough, but rooms are dated and amenities are limited. Free WIFI is a basic amenity even at 1-star hotels these days. Expecting to charge for it is ridiculous.

Nice hotel, old "fancy" could use some fixes here and there but nice - got a great deal on it - otherwise I would not have even considered it. not worth over $100 a night

Great location, beautiful building, needs work

Posted Jan 27, 2015
Pros: It has character, very beautiful building and decor. Great location.
Cons: Make repairs, better attention to details. Needs thoughtful customer service.
Location: Everything we wanted to do was within a 10 minute walk. On the weekend, it was very pedestrian friendly.
I pre-paid for a king size room to accommodate me, my husband and our 12 year old son. When we arrived at 11:00 p.m., they sent us to a double room with no couch without explaining that they were sold out of kings. We agreed to stay in the room after they said there were no other options. It took over an hour to receive a roll away so my son would have a place to sleep. I find it unacceptable to change the room size when it is pre-paid. I also feel the staff could have apologized and offered a solution, rather than ignoring the problem at check in. The building is ornately decorated, charming and in a great location for the Convention center, arts district and west end. Some things in the room were broken or worn out. We also didn't have hand towels and wash cloths at check in. It seems with a little bit of attention this could be a top notch facility. Right now, it's almost a great place but not quite. We enjoyed the restaurants on site. The Bistro is very expensive and slow for breakfast. The cowboy bar is good for dinner and reasonably priced.
