Useful locationPosted Jul 25, 2013 on Hotels.com
This is one of the older hotels and due a little modification, but clean, with pleasant and helpful hosts. The location is on a residential estate and is excellent for travel to Paris. The nearby rail station in Melun is in zone 5 of the rail/metro system and a day ticket will provide unlimited travel between Melun and Montmartre and anywhere in between for 15euro65. Fontainebleau is very close as is the beautiful surrounding countryside.

Smoke BoxPosted May 21, 2013
Pros: nothing! Best part was getting up and leaving early the next morning
Cons: heavy smell of smoke in room, rooms not maintained.
I have stayed at many different Companile hotels over the years I knew that I could count on having a comfortable and safe place to rest and be greeted by friendly staff. This hotel was anything but that! The 1st room it had a fairly strong odor of cigarette smoke. We debated asking for a different room and finally did ask to change rooms. When I went back and told the receptionist (that had checked us in) about the smoke smell she got very defensive saying it was a smoke free property and it should not have a smoke smell and she did not know what I was talking about. I told her the room did smell and I wanted a different room she got very rude and irritated with me. She did finally "find" another room and when we entered that room there was an even heavier smell of smoke, the headboard was barely hanging on the wall and a visible line of dust/smoke from where the headboard had been hanging level, there were burn marks all over the floor, mildew on the shower walls & the bedding/pillows had a heavy smoke odor. We were afraid that if we complained again they would kick us out of the hotel & it was getting late & there were no other hotels in the area. We ended up opening up the windows & door and airing it out. We sprayed the bedding with febreze to attempt to make the bedding not smell so bad & the towels useable. We ended up wrapping the pillows in cloths to help cover the smell. We honestly felt as though she gave us a room she knew had problems just because we complained.

Basic room, hard bed.Posted May 19, 2013
Cons: The Bed
Location: Location was ok close to bus to take you to Melun train station.
Bed very very uncomfortable, was very sore all over after getting up. Very basic, small room.

It's a clean unit ,the neighborhood is quiet however there are two things that seriously affect any positive impressions . First is the distance and the transportation means from Gare de Melun and second the unwillingness and reluctance of staff to provide service of any sort . No English speakers , not smiling and rather stiff, giving the impression that they do a favour instead of providing services. I could choose it again if it provided a shuttle service and if staff had a customer service training . It's a pity for a clean and descent hotel to lack of satisfactory connection back and forth to Melun and of smiling and willing staff.Thank you
