"Quiet rural location close by Dartmoor"
Excellent hosts at quiet rural location with lovely garden. The upstairs rooms are B and B with ensuite, nicely decorated. Bed is soft, quilt is featherdown. TV/DVD adequate. WC and shower are cramped but at the mid-week price that is a quibble. Fridge not in room but you can use household fridge downstairs. Satisfied customer.

"Prosecco for breakfast!"
Gorgeous location, beautifully appointed rooms. Most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Lovely fluffy robes. Breakfast was delightful, made perfect with a complementary glass of prosecco. Just a shame about the noise from the room above.

"A Jewel In Devon"
The house and grounds are beautiful, the surroundings delightful, the food excellent. But what made our stay especially pleasant, was the can do attitude of your staff and their sheer friendliness. Nothing was too much trouble for them: they printed out route maps for us, gathered details of activities, and even rang the Castle Inn at Lydford to see if they would allow Maggie, our border, in the restaurant. (Amazingly they did). Even when things went a bit wrong, during the RNLI event half the kitchen staff disappeared to another function and most of the afternoon menu went with them, but those remaining put themselves out to compensate, which they did royally. And they always had time for a chat about anything, from the house ghosts to points of local interest. Maggie the dog is pretty well behaved, but nevertheless, we were touched by how kind everybody was to her, making her feel right at home. By the end of our stay she thought it was her home. Lewtrenchard is splendid, but the jewel in its crown is undoubtedly the staff.

"Charming and comfortable getaway"
This was a find! Tucked away in the countryside but easy to get to, this charming 19th C. farmhouse was one of the best B and Bs we've ever visited. Our room was very comfortable (shower a bit tight, but with an excellent spray) with a queen four poster bed and a gorgeous view of the rolling Devon countryside. The breakfast menu had an unusual number of hot and cold options (eggs, sausages, cereals, fruit, breads...) with carbs and protein both, and had a great hot vegetarian farmhouse plate. The wi-fi was spotty at times, but one could manage, There is a pub nearby for an evening meal, and the town of Tavistock is about five miles away. We were there at lambing time, and our hosts welcomed us to visit the lambing shed and even help bottle feed a baby. The family was just so welcoming and so friendly, we felt we were visiting old friends. Hated to leave!

"Excellent Guest House in excellent location."
We really enjoyed our stay. The room was very spacious, well furnished, immaculately clean and had spectacular views over Dartmoor. Breakfast and service all excellent. Great location - only a mile or so from Okehampton town - right on the edge of Dartmoor - midway between the North and South Devon coasts.

"Lovely country pub"
a small wonderful country pub, I think they have 3 rooms for guests. we used this as an overnight stay before continuing our journey to Cornwall. We arrived later than expected (approx 9.20pm) this was no problem, they showed us straight to our room. We then just left our bags and went back down to have a drink at the bar (they had stopped serving food, but did offer to make sandwiches for us if we required). We all slept well and then enjoyed a fabulous cooked breakfast in the morning. This was our second overnight stay at this pub and will stay again on our next visit to Cornwall.

Pocket Guide: Dartmoor, Devon Pet-friendly Hotels

A fascinating contrast of wild empty landscapes, manicured beauty spots and picture-postcard villages, Dartmoor is one of southern England's last wildernesses, where ponies, sheep, and cattle graze freely. Most popular for day-trippers is the south east of the moor with wooded valleys and cascading streams. The central and northern parts feature wild open moorland with imposing rock outcrops ('tors'). The whole area is a walker's paradise.
