Nice smart business hotel, bargain price!

Check in was quite quick and the room we booked was lovely, clean and smart. For the price we paid, it was a bargain! Really good restaurant diagonally across the next junction too, and only a short taxi ride to sights or bus and train stations.

Pros: Everything.
Cons: Very happy with everything.
Location: Close to local bus station and therefore easy to get to grottos and easy to find someone to take you to hanging temple.
I have been travelling for 7 months and believe think that the Haohai International Hotel is the second best value for money place that I have stayed in (the other being in Bolivia). The rooms and facilities are first class. It is very clean and the staff rte friendly. They managed yo help me with everything I enquired about despite my lack of Chinese and the little English they knew. The room service menu makes an interesting read! I would recommend this hotel to anyone whether on business or leisure. Their all you can eat buffet includes alcohol too. :-) I extended my stay.

We stayed for 2 nights with 2 rooms. Rooms were very reasonably priced. The hotel looks nice from the outside and the lobby is quite impressive. The rooms themselves were clean and functional with all the basic amenities, but they had no windows and lacked charm. There was TV, but not the cable ones like CNN, BBC world, etc. The breakfast buffet was a little gloomy- in a big room with no windows and people were smoking, like everywhere else in China, the food of the breakfast was not very convincing for non chinese like us. The service at the reception was fine. The hotel is situated along a main road of Datong, not very much to see in the immediate vicinity, but we can easily take a taxi to go more towards the city center. Overall, very acceptable considering the low price, but don't expect the moon.
