Pros: Big comfortable bed
Location: Airport is nearby but not much else and busy road is not a pleasure to walk.
Hotel Tropika is a little out of Town but quite near the airport- taxis are cheap and always available and its only 10 mins to central Davao. The staff are courteous and helpful. The rooms are a good size with a very large comfortable bed, decent bathroom. The wifi is poor but internet is good if you use the ethernet cable provided. Plenty of television channels on a good TV. The only thing that lets this hotel down is the breakfast. First you get a scurvy ration of a tiny slice of pineapple and melon and then a very limited menu from which you can choose a very small meal - the omelette was ok. I don't like to complain but we stayed in various hotels in the Philippines and this was the only place that provided such a meagre offering, you felt it was not worth the effort and as a result we decided not to bother eating at the hotel for lunch or dinner. Because of dining disappointment I have to score Tropika 3/5

The hotel is ok for the price but it is out of the way. Marco Polo is a little more up scale and not much more in price.

The service is very good. Had restful sleeps. My room had week wifi signal and I was so pleased when we were transferred to a room that had strong signal. They are quick to give positive responses to a request or complaint. Oh, they serve fried durian ice cream. It had impressive presentation. It's another way of enjoying durian of Davao. If you're not into much sweetness, do not mix in its syrup. Worth trying and be surprised.

Hotel Tropika ReviewPosted May 6, 2013
Pros: I like their facilities, no swimming pool though. Also the people, they were very helpful during our stay.
Cons: Probably the hallway, it lacks art.
Location: It is very accessible.
The room was very cozy and place is also seated strategically near malls, restaurants and supermarkets so it was easy for us to go places nearby. It is accessible, it is about 15 minutes away from Francisco Bangoy Airport, likewise to Abreeza mall. What I really noticed was the hotel personnel. They were all helpful, polite and attentive to our needs. However, I find other services quite expensive like the hotel conference room, massage service, etc. You can NEVER haggle for discounts even if you booked there in a group.

This was my 5th time staying here, each time for at least two weeks. Nice, clean rooms, very friendly staff, close the Abreeza Mall and SM Lanang, inexpensive, especially compared to U.S. prices. Only minor complaints would be very few TV stations, restaurant is average at best.
