Great Bed, but Ground Floor Noise a bust
Posted Jan 16, 2013
Pros: Good Bed, Good Shower. Basics were covered. Nothing special; nice clean bedding; Grills outside, for an easy BBQ. NOISE!! 1st floor NO NO NO
Cons: educate the staff on how to upgrade when a customer wants to. Get what you pay for; this is an example of that. For the price I paid, room was OK
Tried to upgrade; but hotel staff gave no option. This is what you booked on Expedia; this is what you get. Ignorance and Laziness of staff is likely why; A different person might have had the brain power to work an upgrade. Noise from foot traffic, kids squealing, was a bit of a problem. Food choice: Tiny breakfast area by pool was ok. Stay on higher floor; or do not book.

was okay for the purpose
Posted Jan 9, 2013
The first room we had was horrible. The fan overheated, the air conditioner smelled like dead fish and the TV had a hiss when I turned it on. The room itself was beautiful but they moved to to a building that had a smaller room. It was okay but I preferred the first room. The pool was small but the slide was cool.

On a budget so we "took a chance"!
Posted Jan 27, 2013
Pros: Location, price, fun.
Cons: Furnishings and coverings could stand updating, but they are well maintained and clean.
Location: Historic sites, marinas, board walk, amusements, eats!
This older property had good ratings on several sites, so being on a budget we "took a chance" and were pleased with the results. In fact, we decided this property would be a repeat for next year and the money saved would easily pay for a party boat rental weekend on our local lake. The property is clean, everything worked and it was comfy. Furniture and coverings are a bit dated but in good shape. Lots of planned activities for young and old integration. There were young couples and generational family groups. The water slide was a big hit and plenty of Daytona beach to go with the 2 pools.

Won't be back
Posted Jan 11, 2013
Pros: Location
Cons: The hotel needs updating more than anything I feel
Location: It's right on the beach and within a few miles of a Publix and a shopping mall on the beach. Location is great, but I'll be looking for another hotel
I go to Daytona annually and saw that the Sun Viking Lodge was fairly affordable. I don't spend much time in the room, of course, and figured since it's on the beach it must be fairly nice. I don't know if it was just luck of the draw or what, but we got a room on the ground floor right near the elevators and the door for the room was an outdoor door. It was extremely noisy all night. The room also, I'd give it maybe a 2/5. It was clean, that's true, but everything just felt "cheap" and outdated. The bathroom light flickered constantly when on, the bathtub felt like it came from a mobile home and the room in general felt like an "affordable" room on a cruise ship - somewhat small and very prone to outside noise.

Cheer Weekend
Posted Jan 15, 2013
Pros: Out door facilities; pools, hot tub, patio, beach access.
Cons: No continental breakfast.
Location: 3.5 miles south of center of Daytona
Was only there for a couple of days for the Cheerleading Nationals. I was pleasantly surprised by the condition of the hotel for its age. The room was comfortable and clean but a little dated as they have not invested in flat screen TV's. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the facilities, pool, hot tub etc. were great. A feature for families with kids is that the outdoor pool has a water slide. Access to the beach is great and there is plenty of room to sit and enjoy the out doors. The only aspect that was missing was a continental type breakfast. If you are looking for a comfortable place to sleep and use the room as a starting point each day and maybe relax around a pool for a little while this is a great place. It is about 3.5 miles from the main part of Daytona Beach so you will need to have a car to get to the main part of Daytona. There aren't any restaurants within walking distance either.

Pleasantly surprised
Posted Jan 12, 2013
Pros: Friendly service, family feel
I wasn't sure what to expect booking the hotel without seeing it (and the fact that it's not a "chain"). I was pleasantly surprised by the great service, and the condition of the hotel. I met 2 couples who frequent this location every year. I would go back!

Pros: Large Clean Rooms & Family Friendly
I booked two rooms for a Family function. Our stay was great, I couldn't be more pleased. This property is staffed with a great crew of employees who go out of their way to be helpful and insure you stay is a good one. The rooms are cheerful, well maintained and clean. This is a family friendly place to stay, organized activities for the kids, close to attractions. I recommend this property and I will definitly stay here again.

Very family friendly. Lots of activities, 2 pools, lots of chairs for the pool and beach. Room was very clean. We took the kids for a quick weekend getaway and it was just what we needed. We would definitely go back or recommend it.

Unpretentious fun family beach hotel
Posted Jan 30, 2013
Pros: Indoor pool and the outdoor slide. Plus, beach access was terrific.
Cons: Lack of towels. Pack your own pool and beach towels!!
Location: Directly on the beach and close to fun family attractions.
Although we visited Daytona during record-breaking cold temps, the Sun Viking turned out to be a great choice of vacation destination. The indoor pool was warm and cozy and nicely "landscaped" with a cool waterfall feature. Our daughter braved the cool air to try the slide outdoors and loved it! We will stay again next time through Daytona.
