Nice hotel for a family weekend getaway

Posted Jul 27, 2014
Pros: Location, spacious compound, spacious rooms, has its own beachfront. Minibar offers free drinks (pop, juice). Secure.
Cons: Rooms could be upgraded, tennis courts lit for night play. A shuttle service perhaps to/from the capital, Amman, as taxis are quite expensive.
Location: Hotel location is convenient. Other than the restaurants and facilities inside the hotel compound, nothing to do nearby.
Not a bad hotel, a bit pricey though considering it has lost some of its glamour since it was built in 1997 and meanwhile new rival real 5 star hotels like Kempinski showed up. Was assigned a standard room in the Yarmuk wing which needs upgrading. Bedsheets did not feel/smell freshly washed. Stairs not cleaned very well and noted uncollected utensils. Plenty of noisy kids in adjacent room, dragging furniture which was bothersome. Beach opens late (9 am) so if one plans to wade in the Dead Sea he'll be doing it at his own risk. Liked the big compound though, with lots of trees and green, gives you a village atmosphere.

Disappointing for a purported 5 star

Posted Jul 25, 2014
Pros: Nice beach access. Minibar in room is stocked with a small complimentary selection of soft drinks.
Cons: Attitude of staff.
As with most hotels in this part of the world this one falls a part at the hands of it's staff. We encountered a few, mostly at the front desk, who seemed eager to please and serve but almost all other staff acted bothered that we were even there. We opted for the half board option and could hardly have been more disappointed. We have stayed at three other Moevenpick hotels in Jordan (all wonderful experiences) and the dinner and breakfast at this one was highly lacking. Both meals were served in an expansive ballroom. So it was just a huge room full of tables, it was loud and chaotic with no atmosphere. The meal selection was uninspiring, limited and bland. Every other Moevenpick I have stayed in served meals in one of the restaurants. Consider the cost before you choose the buffet option at this hotel. There are other options. By far the largest failing of this staff was when the restaurant staff chose to call our room at 11pm when we were asleep to correct their mistake on our bill. I immediately called the front desk to complain but there was no resolution whatsoever. At a five star hotel I expect the management to take complaints more seriously. The standard room is ok, nothing special. I did appreciate that the AC was running in the room when we checked in, we have been to several others that take hours to cool down.

Beautiful hotel, staff very nice, they went out of their way to help me, I got a room with sea view, it was wonderful. I enjoyed 3 swimming pools and the Dead Sea, the lifeguard was very nice and took a lot of pictures, the food was delicious, I loved this hotel....

Good option to stay by the Dead Sea

Posted Jun 8, 2014
Only stayed one night, so not much to say - room was decent size and clean. Breakfast is very good. Large green areas with couple of artificial ponds and streams. On the negative note: we were checking in with our friends and receptionist upgraded their room but not ours, not that it matters to us that much, but it meant our rooms were far apart, and I didn't get the idea of making somebody who stays in your hotel for the first time feel "less special" ;) as opposed to their friends..

Great place to stay right on the water

Posted Jun 4, 2014
Pros: Separate pool areas. Private beach. Quite atmosphere. Landscaping was beautiful.
Cons: The AC in the room could be stronger. It was fine, but if it got much hotter outside maybe it would not have been strong enough.
Location: Location is VERY easy to find from the airport or amman. You can follow signs all the way there, in Arabic/English. Baptism site 15min away, signs all
My wife and I stayed for our one year anniversary... It was perfect. The room was clean, comfortable and the entire hotel had a great blend of Arab culture and western comforts. We almost didn't stay based on a couple people who said the breakfast buffet was terrible. Thank goodness we decided to ignore the couple of people and 'risk' it. The breakfast was great. They have an omelet station, waffles, any kind of bread you want, coffee brought to your table by server. They had smoked mackral, honey right off the comb at one station. Pastries and juices also available. We were both very happy with the breakfast. There were several pool options, all of which were very clean and beautiful. We stayed one time at the lower pool which was nice and quite. The beach has private access to the Dead Sea and right at the top of the stairs is a pot of clay directly from the Dead Sea. It was so cool. Staff was very kind and helpful when you needed anything. All in all a great stay.

Amazing spa, great pools, family friendly

Posted Jun 4, 2014
Pros: Spa, pools, decor, staff
Cons: Cost of food
Location: Dead Sea and Zara Spa
Lovely for a short stay - pools and spa really relaxing. Lovely decor. Would be expensive for long stay as food and drinks are expensive and there are no other places to eat except the hotel.
