“Had so much fun!”

The Gulch is the fun place to stay. they are always doing something for the guests. Games, drawings etc. We went all over Deadwood, and ended up coming back to the Gulch, to have some real fun. The staff is excellant and as one staff member put it, "we are crazy, and love having a good time" Will go back again and again! Thank You:)

“Employee service very good but.....”

The hotel is not new and it appears that an effort is there to maintain it but it just did not impress us at all except for the friendly employees. The adjoining restaurant was very good and it did not seem as depressing as the hotel.

“deadwood”

The breakfast at the restaurant was wonderful. The room was just ok. The room smelled old and smoky. The a/c was loud.

“FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE”

We had 2 biker guys enter our locked room because the hotel gave them a card key to the same room! My husband was asleep in room when they came in. They were as equally startled. They called front desk and got another room. Meanwhile I was gambling and tried to come back in our room. My card key would not work! So my husband & I went to front desk to complain. They told us they had put us in another room. However they had not notified either of us! Furthermore it was messed up from beginning because we had booked a non-smoking but they put us in a smoking room. We were both so tired that we didn't want to complain and just stayed there but realize that was the beginning of the unraveling. We demanded a free room & did get it but that didn't fix the fact that we were uncomfortable knowing we were not safe there. It could have turned into a very ugly situation if they hadn't been nice people & as equally as startled. If we were both gone we could have had all our things gone thru & stolen. So many bad outcomes could have taken place due to the front desks lack of competence! We will never go back there or recommend to anyone!

Area recommendations
The neighborhood is fine as it is beautiful & the trolley picks you up & takes you downtown for only a $1. The Gulches of Fun which is a Comfort Inn is across the street & we have stayed there before a couple of times. It is a great place to stay & has lots of fun activities for the kids!
Dining
The Miner's Den was an excellent meal for lunch & I can't wait to go back & try it for dinner. Very clean, rustic decor & awesome customer service. Very delicious food with a good selection to choose from.

“One of Deadwood's Finest”

The Deadwood Gulch Resort is very clean and comfortable with two standard queen-size beds and a decent room size. The casino is very nice as well as the restaurant and bakery. The bakery/ gift shop is actually outstanding with very fresh rolls, etc. They were the best we have ever eaten. The staff is very friendly. They obviously work very hard at keeping new customers. The only other thing I could say would be that they could have an in ground pool inside but I don't know where they would put it. The brook running behind the hotel is very nice and picturesque.

Dining
Midnight Starr, Deadwood Gulch Resort, Deadwood Social Club, Deadwood Tabacco Company is awesome for entertainment, and the best cigars north of Cuba.

“Good Find”

Deadwood Gulch was a pleasure. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. The complimentary breakfast was basic but enough to get the day started and it was served until 11 a.m. Also, the other food at the restaurant was tasty and reasonably priced. The sweet rolls at the little bakery were very good. The casino had a lot of penny slots which was great for us since we're not big gamblers. The resort is situated on Deadwood Gulch. They have outside decks where you can eat or just relax while just taking in the flow of the gulch and the scenic hillside across the way. It is very relaxing after a day of sightseeing. The resort is just outside Deadwood. But a trolley serves the area ($1 each way), so you don't have to drive into town. Other Black Hills sights are close enough for day trips. If you are a chocoholic, you must stop in at the Chubby Chipmunk for handmade gourmet chocolates. It is just down the road from the Gulch.

Area recommendations
Take one of the Deadwood tours to get the lay of the land and some history. The Adams Museum has many interesting artifacts. Walk Main Street and explore the old hotels, restaurants and stores (and the many casinos, if that is your thing). Mt. Moriah Cemetery - if it is not on your tour.
