Del Duque Beach
One of the main beaches in Costa Adeje, Del Duque Beach is set in a small bay bordered by aquamarine waters. Enjoy the chic restaurants, hotels and shopping centers with an atmosphere that is often compared to a stylish beach in Southern France.
Like most of Tenerife’s beaches, Del Duque Beach was originally covered with black volcanic sand. Appreciate this beach’s imported golden sand that feels slightly coarse underfoot. Lined by palm trees, the beach slopes down gently toward clear waters where you can go swimming.
Although the beach technically belongs to the nearby hotel of the same name, it’s open to both guests and non-guests. Notice the rock formation that separates Del Duque from the rest of the south coast, adding to its air of exclusivity and seclusion. Walk along the wide promenade found behind the beach, which stretches almost 6 miles (10 kilometers) and links Del Duque to the island’s other resorts.
Lie under an umbrella or head into the clear waters for a refreshing swim. The beach is also an excellent spot for bodyboarding, sailing and diving.
Watch for a castle-like residence perched on top of the rocky headland overlooking the beach. Although rumored to be a private casino or the summer residence of Simon Cowell, it’s actually the home of a wealthy Canarian business man.
Head just around the large rock to reach Playa Fanabe, a beach preferred by many families for its safe, shallow waters. In addition to offering some of the area’s best swimming, this pleasant beach is an ideal place to rent Jet Skis or go parasailing.
Take a break from the sun and visit the numerous shops, bars and restaurants found near the sands. Find a shaded, outdoor table and snack on tapas or traditional Canarian dishes. The shops cater to the upmarket crowd and are often quite expensive, but certainly inspiring for browsing.
Del Duque Beach is located 2.2 miles (3.5 kilometers) northwest of Playa de las Americas. It’s connected to almost all resorts on the island by local buses. Find parking available nearby.
