“Our favorite of 4 hotels stayed in”

Pros: Perfectly Clean Location - 5 minute walk to Red Fort/Subway station/ATMs/McDonalds Quiet Good free breakfast (a proper breakfast, not muffins and juice boxes) Nice on the inside, especially the marble floors Free 15-minute internet access on ground floor via 1 computer Helpful front desk staff Cons: The area is very, very, very, very dirty and impoverished. Bottom line is we'd stay here again in a heartbeat, and recommend it to any others who are OK with how the surrounding area looks (Google image search Paharganj). Of our 4 hotels in India, this one was the least expensive, and surprisingly, our favorite.

“Great hotel, but located in the slums”

Great hotel, airport pickup went smoothly (call if you can't find the taxi, the new airport has many waiting areas). The staff were very nice, although they did try to sell me a tour of Delhi the first day I was there. However, after I declined they didn't try to push it on my again, and were very helpful. The hotel is located in the old part of Delhi, and the surrounding few blocks are really a slum. However, the hotel is very nice, and the interior looks like it belongs in a much more expensive neighborhood. It's also walking distance from the Red Fort.

“Great experience, cant wait to go back .'”

The staff was great, service was super, spoke very good English. The food was amazing. Be sure to try the Lemon Corriander Soup--amazingly Wonderful! I wish I had the recipe, I would love to have some right Now! The location is great for shopping and the Red Fort. Great views from thr terrace on the roof. Wonderful stay.

We enjoyed our stay here, and when we returned to Delhi a few weeks later, we chose to come back here.

“A Half Decent Hotel in Delhi”

The main basic areas of being clean, and kept clean, running hot water, working ac and good service were up to the mark. if you can get that from a 3 star hotel in Delhi you're doing ok. Picked up at the airport free as requested though at night and guys just in private car no taxi name or anything so good that I had gone to airport police who took guys names. be aware the free pickup as clearly stated is for arrival only. As noted in other reviews, area could be conceived as being slightly dodgy but once I'd been around it in daytime and found the metro station only about 5mins walk away, I was more confident and returned and left the hotel numerous times at night/early morning. not once did I get the feeling someone was going to try and mug/pickpocket me - it is a big shopping area and everyone was busy doing their own thing as a big Hindu festival was taking place. Breakfast was included and its not 5star but its better than an empty stomach! While the staff were helpful with lots of info etc, The second time I stayed they tried to put me in a windowless room at first - be upfront at asking for a room with a window. They had no problems with storing luggage. the only other things to be aware is that I would suggest paying by cash if at all possible (they swiped my visa about 5 times and I'm keeping a very close eye on it) and the internet available at reception is very slow.

“The Jewel in the Landfill”

This hotel remains the jewel in the landfill: very sketchy alley entrance but once you're inside all is good. They arranged a driver for a day trip to Agra (good price) and then had our complimentary breakfast delivered before we left. On the last day (after we had checked out) we were tired of wandering the markets waiting for our late afternoon train departure. We jokingly asked if there was a pub nearby where we could have a beer. The front desk then asks the bellman to take us up to a vacant room and they serve us two beers! Again, after we had checked out! This hotel treated us well. Minor irritant: the hot water was only available for a short window in the morning, but such is the norm in India. No problems recommending this hotel to those who are not afraid to stay in the turmoil and commotion of Old Delhi.

“Hard to find but good value and friendly staff”

We had a fair bit of trouble finding this place as our taxi driver had to keep stopping and asking people. We finally saw a sign pointing down a rather shady lane and initially were more than a little wary. As soon as we enetered the staff welcomed us with smiles and showed us to our clean and well maintained room. We only stayed for one night and the Hotel arranged our taxi pick up in the morning which went smoothly. Overall a great place and we enjoyed wandering down the lanes around the old bicycle market where the hotel is situated as it felt like a real Delhi experience.

“Clean with great service and delicious food”

Hotel Tara Palace is not in the greatest of locations (hidden in the alley way of a busy marketplace filled with low-middle class laborers...not a suitable place for a foreign woman to walk around at night), but it's truly an oasis inside. Spotless rooms with clean walls and linens, a well constructed bathroom and a comfortable bed with good pillows. Room service was prompt and friendly; the reception spoke good English and was very helpful. The food was good, the AC worked well and we had electricity during the whole visit (in March). For the price I paied it was a steal! Though the location wasn't particularly comfortable for a woman to walk around after dark, if you're in a pair it's so close to the metro (7 minute walk) and clean inside that it's well worth the compromise. I highly recommend the Palace for those trying to keep a tight budget while getting a quality staying experience.

“Gem”

Having searched through a bewildering array of hotels, reviews and opinions we settled on the Tara Palace somewhat blindly. It was just what we were looking for. It's right in the middle of the teeming bazaars of Old Delhi. This is an intense place, but the the hotel is tucked away down an alley and an atmosphere of calm prevails. Some people have mentioned that the small alley leading to the hotel can feel intimidating - this was not our experience at all. We wandered around at night and felt safer than we do in many English cities after 10.00pm. The hotel is very clean and well serviced, the staff were pleasant and helpful. We asked to be met at the airport and we were. We were so impressed that we booked in again for a two day stop over later in our trip. An excellent experience in a fascinating part of town. A great mid-range option.
