gorgeous location but inconvenient without a car
This is the most gorgeous location of any hotel in the McKinley Park area. However, it is quite a long, steep, muddy hike to get up to the hotel from the town / restaurants below. Dining options are very limited at the Lodge and the hotel's shuttle bus only runs every hour, ending by 8 or 9PM. This is quite early given that Alaska has long hours of daylight and tours often don't end until late. I would only recommend staying here if you have a car

The staff were so polite and helpful. They proactively reached out us a number of time, by text, prior to our arrival. The day we were arriving by train I texted them to let them know that our train was running an hour and a half behind schedule and inquired about dinner options. They quickly responded and offered to make a reservation at their restaurant. Our dinner was delicious and the sunset view was beautiful.

First off, Denali is about 100 miles away. The rooms are old and musty. The bar was super expensive. It was $14 for a bowl of vegetable soup. Staff was friendly. Entire place needs a facelift.

The Grand Denali has frequent shuttles to and from the town of Denali, the train station, the park visitor center, and more. The view from our room was awesome, and the restaurant meal was delicious.

One issue with the property is the long and twisting drive up a steep hill to the property on a combination of gravel and asphalt road, which make it a less convenient than other places off the main road. However, this can provide some very nice views. The food options, service and pricing at the property is poor - as it caters to tour groups and they have a captive audience. You can't walk to other restaurants.

The room was very cozy, almost like staying at a friends house. However, we were near the door to the second floor stairs and early in the morning people were coming in and out, talking loudly - on top of that, the door squeaked and it interfered with our sleep. It’s an easy fix for the hotel to replace or fix that door.

This is a great hotel for a stay with family. All the tours in the area have pick up shuttles from Grande Denali and even if you don't want to use the shuttles, it is a drivable distance. There is an onsite bar and restaurant, and also a coffee shop. Beautiful views.

AC unit in room didn’t work and we were adjacent to the machine room, so it was very hot. We were also above the spot where employees took their cigarette breaks, so couldn’t really ope. The windows.

I hate giving reviews a title
Staying at the Grande Denali Lodge was very relaxing and pleasant. The room was spacious. The pillows could have been better, but when are lodging pillows as nice as what one has at home? The breakfast buffet had a variety of options, including many healthy choices, that were all good. The dinner options could be improved as they were mainly fish and meat. One person in my party was vegetarian, so this person ate salads for dinner and started getting tired of it.

Very nice staff, lobby, rooms, etc. we’re very clean. Hotel room was sub standard for the price that is charged. Comparable to a Best Western hotel. Our room had huge cracks in the ceiling and most of the furniture was chipped or scratched. Did not dine in the restaurant as better priced options were available nearby for breakfast.

Inconvenient location. I would only come back for the view from the dining room. Hotel is average. Paid extra for Mountain View but being from the Rocky Mountain region it was average. DIDN’T KNOW THERE IS NO VIEW OF DENALI WITHOUT A 6 hr BUS RIDE INTO THE PARK. The hotel shuttle runs on a 1/2hr schedule to get you down to the visitor center or main area for food and shopping. Otherwise you would have to be able to walk a steep switch back gravel road. FOOD was decent, menu limited and no substitutions. Overall disappointing for the cost. If you come by train or bus realize you may be sitting for 8 hours by noisy or smelly people.

OK Place For A Few Days
The hotel was generally clean and comfortable. The lodge room decor was a bit outdated. The walls were a bit thin and could hear others both upstairs and in next door rooms. There may be other better options.

Good location , but terrible front desk
The good part is its location, close to the park with almost all the shuttle busses stopping by. It has a great view on the balcony. Therefore, you will be ok by staying there. However, the bad part--service and attitude from some staffs. Particularly the front desk, they were not friendly at all, sometimes even being rude and sarcastic. I have encountered at least 3 different front desk people, they were all cold , reluctant, and one of the guy from Kentucky even trying to make up some "new policy " to make things difficult. It is the worst front desk at any resorts I have ever experienced. They are either poorly trained, or don't like people with some accents.

Great views, decent and clean room, lovely bar with great drinks. Do not recommend the restaurant- overpriced and poor quality food. We had a fried appetizer that was served frozen in the middle that was $25 for a small portion. There are plenty of better places to eat in “town”.

Overall the lodge was an ok place to stay - horribly overpriced for what they have to offer (but I am finding that is everywhere in AK) - beautiful location. However, for me “one and done” definitely not worth the ridiculous $$$$$ to ever return. Small area with 24hr snacks did not offer anything for toddlers and what was there was STUPID EXPENSIVE, 2 muffins and a sprite >25$. Shower curtains need good cleaning or replaced - very musty smelling. A/C in our room did not cool room well. Denali crossed off bucket list so no need to return.
