“Nice, but 5 minutes from the restaurants and shops in Denali”
It's a nice hotel if you have a rental. Otherwise, you have to take wait for their bus to take you around. Definitely do the Kantishna Experience bus. It's 12-13 hours long, but totally worth it. We saw bears, caribou, wolves, eagles, ptarmigans, etc. It was great!
“Great!”
Great location, good size rooms, well looked after. clean and friendly, overall very satisfied!
“Rustic, Scenic....would definitely stay again!”
Facility had lodge and cabins for overnite stays and just outside Denali Park. Canoe and kayak launching right there. Everything was so convenient. Staff at check in, gift store, restaurant etc all so friendly and helpful. Pleasant stay.
“Worst hotel experience ever!!! I would not recommend to anyone!”
It was pouring rain, and we didn't get offered a shuttle to our lodge. Once we finally got to our room soaking wet because the parking was very far away, we walked to our room and found out that there was no power, water, tv, restroom since it is on well. For the price we paid, you'd think there would be a backup generator. The hotel staff was very cold, and when we started to complain about it, they just said that they had to get someone from another city 20 miles and didn't know how long it would take to get the power back. I had to ask for a phone book to find out if there was another hotel that had power, and found out that the sister company, McKinley Chalet Hotel had a room. We got transferred there. I will only go to that hotel in the future. It wasn't as nice and we didn't get any discount for the difference, so I am not happy with our experience at all with the hotel accomodations and will not go back again. Even the other people in the hotel were complaining about McKinley Village hotel and that the power was off all day...and nobody was doing anything about it. It was cold and no one could even go to the bathroom since the well was run on power. I can't believe there was no backup generators as the Princess Hotel has four backup generators!!! We don't go out very often since we have 3 year old twins, so I was expecting a nice hotel room and service for the money we spent, and unfortunately was totally dissatisfied with the front desk service and accomodations!!
“Very Impressed”
Could not believe the incredible scenery.
“Desperate for Quiet”
Check-in was courteous and quick, and the staff capably anticipated and answered our questions. Food and service in the hotel restaurant was outstanding. As expected, the rooms were fairly basic, but adequate. Our only complaint was that the hotel was EXTREMELY noisy. Walls seemed like paper. Tour pickups begin at 6:40 a.m., so noise from adjoining rooms and the halls begins very early. Worst of all, someone set up the bathroom lights so that they automatically turn on the very loud bathroom fans every time the light is switched on. The noise of the fans turning off and on all night long in adjacent rooms took a real toll on our sleep. We would try a different hotel next time.
“Disappointed”
Based on the pictures provided, I was given the impression that the lodge was going to be nicer than it was, since it wasn't cheap. The main lodge/reception area was spacious and neat, but once we got to our rooms, we were disappointed. It was fairly small and looks old. If the room price was cheaper, I would have had less expectations and 'get my money's worth'.
“Avoid going to this place where staff is uncivil!”
We stayed here during our trip to Denali and resented staying there for various reasons: 1. It is away from the hub - there are many places at less than half the cost; 2. The resort is manned by floating staff who are not well trained and contradict themselves - specialy the reception/check in staff. We were asked to wait for 1-2 hours till the rooms get ready; 3. On checking out we were told that the Resort shuttle will leave us and our baggage to the train station but then other staffs contradicted this by saying that we shoudl take the free public shuittle with all the baggage!! Luckily, we did get the resort shuttle - despite the reception supervison booing us away to take the public bus as it willleave without us and we will be on our own!! Not something you expect from a resort!! We have stayed in many places buthave never experinced this anywhere else; Overall, the resort is clean and spacious but expensive and when you get the service we did, not worth your money. In case you are travelling in a group and your accomodation is arranged here I think it is okay since they will give you the best. But if you are an individual family - stay away from this place!!!
“Great setting”
