“Beautiful hotel in Buxton”

We attended a wedding reception at the Lee Wood Hotel, Buxton and managed to book a room at the same hotel. From start to end everything was perfect, with magnificent service throughout the reception and a very comfortable room to stay in. Breakfast next morning completed a lovely weekend of celebration.

“Just far enough away from the bustle of the city”

The Lee Wood is a nice hotel set within an old renovated manor house. The property is split across two buildings: the main building where the majority of rooms, the restaurant & bar, and lounge areas are housed; and a secondary annex building that houses 4-5 rooms. The hotel is tucked into a residential area, but is only a few minutes from the city center. I stayed in the one of the annex rooms. The room was nice, but certainly on the small side when compared to US stnadards. It resembled very much a room you would find at a traditional B&B -- a bit dated, but clean and cozy. The bed could have used upgrading, as it was quite broken down, and the water pressure of the shower left much to be desired. The restaurant is lovely. Nice continental breakfast buffet with the option of hot breakfast cooked to order. The lunch and dinner menus are very nice; fairly high end menu choices coupled with excellent presentation at fair prices. The restaurant is worth a visit even if you choose to stay elsewhere. The restaurant and hotel staff inclusive were very nice and helpful, and it felt as though they genuinely cared.

“A bar to the Bar”

Hotel in its service and qaulity were fine. The bar area is not inviting - to me a little dark and dreary - not somewhere you would wan to stay for a few drinks.

“Overall OK but not quite central enough”

It was fair enough for the price. But it's up a hill from the town centre. On a cold night we got a taxi from the market place area as the walk would have been about 15 mins, but was less than £3 in a taxi. Yes it's walkable, but frankly, the location probably accounts for the reason it's a bit cheaper than the other places.. The other negative was the lack of any soundproofing between the rooms. It seemed to be studwork, plasterboard and fresh air between. Not good enough these days. But everything was clean and tidy and it did the job.

“Not Impressed”

An "old-fashioned" take on hotel service. Could do with a massive upgrade / refurbishment. I guess OK if you like the "chintzy" approach to hotels, but I find resting on (imagined?) past laurels is inadequate.
