“A very reasonable hotel”

I stayed in the International for 4 nights over 2 weeks. The hotel is very presentable and my room (a single) was a good size with plenty of room for the desk wardrobe etc. The restaurant was also good, the menu was somewhat restricted as it's in the process of changing apparently. But the food was well cooked and reasonably priced. The area around the hotel is quiet, no restaurants and only a couple of small pubs. Its a 30 minute walk into Derby which was a little further than I wanted but still walkable. All in all, for the price, a very nice hotel.

“Hot night in Derby”

Everything was fine, but the room was very hot. I enquired at reception, to be told that the heating wasn't actually switched on, in the whole building. I couldn't get onto the wifi, but I discovered, later, that my laptop was at fault. Just remember to get a password, when you check in. The decor is rather dated - but I wasn't there to be an interior design critic. My real problem is the size of the bed - it was damned small for a double. The buffet breakfast is a guddun, though! I'd stay there again, despite my observations, especially as the rate I got was less than 50% of the displayed "rack rate".

“Redoration!”

In need of major redecoration. Service and food very good and pleasant staff.

“Need of a overhall”

The hotel itself was dated and could do with an upgrade, the people were very friendly and the breakfast was amazing. The room itself was very dated but clean but would stay there for more than 2 nights.

stayed here before and been lucky with the quality of rooms, this time we got a run down , damp and slightly smelly room with a soaken bathroom carpet....still a great breakfast and pleasant staff serving it

“Needs total renovation of Lodge”

Lodge is 100 yards down the main road from the main hotel. Items broken include:- Old wooden windows frames rotten ,dont shut and nearly fell onto street; no heating; radio; light on stairs;TV remote. Bathroom ceiling black mould and broken bathside. Fridge wobbles on 3 legs. Breakfast bar in hotel very good! Needs a good handyman urgently.

“Stay somewhere else”

The room itself was OK size-wise, but there were several cigarette burns in the grubby carpet, the light above the desk space did not work, and the luggage rack was broken. The TV was on a shelf with a swivel mount, however, due to the positioning of the shelf against part of the wall which jutted out the angle of the TV could not be changed, meaning that when sitting on the bed you had to watch TV at a peculiar angle. The bathroom [although there was no bath only a shower] was very small, and the water pressure in the shower was quite literally non existent. I had ordered a daily paper, but did not get one until the last day of my stay. I had pre-paid for my stay when I booked it, but they still tried to charge me again on checkout! I had a bar meal on my first nite. The menu stated "home cooked food" but it was more like a cheap supermarket's cheapest range and there was no veg with the pie and potatoes that I had. I ate out for the next 2 nights, then ate in the restaurant on my last nite - happy to report a great improvement in quality, service, and presentation. But expensive for what it was. Breakfasts were good, plenty of choice of both hot and cold food. The seating area of the bar/lounge is not very comfortable. I was lucky enough to get one of the few parking spaces on the hotel frontage every nite, otherwise you have to park behind the hotel reached only by going down/up a very steep and uneven path. I would not stay here again.

“Do not book into this hotel”

I was given the family room which I was booked into and it was awful. the room smelt of urine and the decor was very minimal. The bathroom again smelt of urine and damp, there was a corner bath with a showerhead linked to the taps. the bath panels were falling apart and the carpert was also in very poor condition. I have visited poor public toilets which are cleaner than this. I had to complain and was offered another room which was not what we had asked for as it only had 1 double bed and a single. this was not suitable as I had 2 children with me. I was then offered another room which hosted 3 single beds which I accepted. The room was extremely hot with no air conditioning and even after opening all the window we still felt the humidity in the room. If my 3rd child had also come along then the hotel would not have had a room to meet our needs. I had booked for a family room which hosted 2 single beds and a double.
