High quality modern room, check in could be better

Posted Dec 2, 2014
Pros: High room quality.
Cons: Late check in process.
The room was modern, recently renovated, with a good shower, quiet. I was on a flying overnight business stay so just came in, slept, had a shower and left. I got a good night's sleep which is what I was after. The attached restaurant also served decent food, when I came back for lunch next day. The only issue was at check in. I arrived at 00:30am, having warned the staff in advance. There was no one at the desk - which is fine. I rang the number provided but no one came for a good 6-7 minutes. When you don't know what is happening, it can seem like an eternity. I was starting to eye up the couch in reception! Then the night receptionist came in. When I mentioned, in a totally neutral tone, that no one came when I rang, he pointedly said that people are often "so rude" to him when he comes (he has to walk from a way away). I laughed it off, but it felt like he was having a go at me. He was a bit of a gruff fellow and seemed to behave like he wasn't actually employed by the hotel itself. My advice - on the sign on the desk which asks people to ring a number - please just write "Please bear with us! Someone will come within 6-7 minutes!" It's the uncertainty while waiting that irritates people! And then your night staff won't be so surly. Overall, I would also say that at £80-something the hotel was too expensive for what it was, especially as I then stayed in Chester in an even more pleasant B&B for £55. But I had to choose it for the location, and it was on expenses.

Excellent B&B in quiet village.

Posted Oct 20, 2014
Probably the best B&B we've staid at! Plenty of places - pubs & chippies - serving excellent fare. Tideswell quite, but having the feel of a 'lived in' village. Centrally placed giving easy access to both White & Dark Peak areas of Derbyshire. We'll certainly be back!

Delightful place in fabulous location

Jill made us really welcome and we felt instantly at home and relaxed. Our room was spacious and very comfortable and the food very good indeed. We have no hesitation in recommending the Rockingham. This area is fast becoming a centre for good food.

All round greatness

I can't fault my stay. Location was great for access to desired locations surrounding e.g dovedale, Buxton and bakewell. The village has a great friendly pub that serves brilliant food. The B&B was clean, the room was nicely decorated, the beds was extremely comfortable and the facilities were spot on. The owner had just the right amount of friendlies and can't fault the hosting. We will most definitely be back to the Rockingham Lodge!

Pros: In the village. Clean bathroom.
Cons: N/A
Location: In Peak area. Great if you want to do many walks. Lovel places but you need a car and be prepared to drive.
The location for us was disappointing. Too far from major sights. Pleasant enough place but little to see. Our room was reasonable but thought house untidy. Breakfast quite good. Owner fairly friendly but some mis information. Will need to check distances more carefully.
