Love this Hotel

Pros: Very Customer Friendly, Food and Service is excellent.
Cons: 0
Location: Great Location to all areas in downtown area Drake races.
Everyone is always so friendly. Breakfast is so good.

Outstanding staff, dirty room.

Pros: The woman at the pancake/omelette station was wonderful and the breakfast attendant was as well. Breakfast was great.
Cons: Cleanliness. Maybe the housekeepers were too busy, but the cleanliness of the room makes all the difference in the stay. Very disappointing.
Location: Excellent location for events at the Civic Center, and walking distance to restaurants.
I want to first commend the staff for outstanding service. The front desk people were helpful, attentive, and top notch. The woman at the grill station for breakfast had the warmest smile, and the gentleman working the breakfast tables made my children feel right at home. We were in town for a special event, and had our small children in tow. Check in was a breeze. We got into the room, changed clothes and left for the event. The first thing I noticed was a moldy, mildewy, and stale urine smell in the bathroom. Later when we returned to the room, and began to settle in, we noticed quite unkempt conditions. There were toenail clippings on the floor next to the bed, weird stains on the top sheet and comforter of the bed, a couple of make up pencils on the floor. At this point it is later in the evening, and our small children are sleeping--quite an inconvenient time to move. I pulled the sheets back to a clean layer and slept there with my clothes on. This was the worst experience in cleanliness I have ever experienced at Embassy Suites. It was gross to imagine that the room had been obviously uncleaned.

Rooms were ok but windows don't open making the room stuffy. Staff very nice.

Pros: Location, made-to-order omelets as part of free breakfast, and the gorgeous view from the hotel suite looking out onto the river and downtown DSM.
Cons: Paying for wifi is kind of 20th century--it should be included with the room.
Location: Close to everything downtown--we walked to the Civic Center and the Farmer's Market (which is a must-do if you're in DSM on a Saturday morning).
We stayed here two weekend nights to go to the Lion King at the Civic Center. It's a 5 minute walk, right across the river, and beautiful scenery along the way. Even though their parking lot was full when we arrived, there was street parking (free on the weekends). Spacious rooms, wonderful breakfast, very friendly and competent staff. Best hotel experience in a long time!

Old rooms nice staff

Pros: Included breakfast is great and free, indoor swimming pool, 2 flat TVs in the rooms.
Cons: its notorious the need of remodelation ASAP. Bathroom smelled so bad, although its rooms have good space several things need a retouch at least.
Location: Good place for a short getaway in downtown Des Moines.
Old rooms but the staff make a great difference though.

Dear Mayito - Thank you for your comments. We did actually have a complete renovation of the hotel from 2010 to 2012 renovating everything from top to bottom. Some guests do mistake the darker color scheme as being old, however, it truly is the design and color palette that was chosen for the hotel. We are very proud of the great condition we maintain and the extremely strong Housekeeping team that keeps the property in a very high state of cleanliness. This hotel has a bit of class! Was a nice stay it was within walking distance of the venue we were attending and found some great restaurants along the way.

We specifically asked for a "feather" free room as my husband is allergic. When we checked in I asked if the room is "feather" free, she checked her computer screen and said yes it is. We did not have time to double the room before we had to leave for our conference. When we returned to our room we checked and it was in deed not "feather" free, in fact while checking feathers were flying everywhere. I called the front desk she apologized and said she would get someone right there. We waited 30 minutes and called back, spoke with someone else, she said "Well I called you earlier to check and didn't hear back so we assumed it was fine." (Well we had some where else to be, she called 2 hours after check in, we didn't rent a hotel room to just sit there and wait for them to call.) Anyway, she said she would send someone. 20 minutes later someone came, exchanged 2 pillows, said she was really busy and left. We were left with the feathers, we were finally able to go to bed 50 minutes later than we had wanted to since we had to stay up and take care of what should have been taken care of in the 1st place. I know mistakes happen, however it just seems like this could have been avoided or resolved more quickly.
